97 Civic Ex Keyless Entry

I have searched every magical key word, and read every article about the dome light/keyless entry/factory radio problem that exists with my 97 Civic Ex with keyless entry.

My problem is the car I purchased has an aftermarket radio installed (very poorly), and the kid did not leave the factory radio mounted behind the dash.

The keyless entry system has been disabled. The dome light doesn't work (when on door position), and the trunk light doesn't work.

I purchased a better aftermarket deck and I am going to properly install it but I need to purchase a used OEM Factory radio from eBay.

The one I am currently looking at was taken from a 1998 Honda Accord.

Would this deck work with what I am trying to do???
I need a little light shed on purchasing the correct factory radio, and which models will work.

Plug and play wise, you would need a radio from 96-98 civics. 99-00 are different (fixed the security thing issue) the Accord radio MAY work but there would be some wire swapping involved. I never tried it though.

You were correct I purchased a 2000 AM FM Radio today from my local junk yard and the customer service people at Crutchfield told me exactly what you said. I wish I got your post sooner. BTW The Crutchfield agents were super helpful. I felt like he was right there looking at exactly what I was.

Does anyone know the exact SN of the correct radio??? Better yet have a picture of the rear?

do you have to have factory keyless? you could always put a new security system in.(bought mine for $30 off amazon and it works fantastic)...then just splice the dome interrupt wires together on the old security harness. idk, your choice, but i never liked having the bulky oem radio sitting behind dash, felt ghetto to me.

the trunk light is not connected to either of those however, its just a switch that opens when the trunk opens, check the bulb and see if its bad or what not.

You know, i never had this problem with my car. i'm very fortunate that the guy that installed my stereo system is a sound/electric genius. He put my aftermarket stereo in and my interior lights still worked like normal. I never even knew there was such an issue until way later. he handed me my stock stereo and that was that.
So what i'm saying is, there has to be a way to get the lights to work without putting the stock stereo in there unfortunately i don't know how that is.
Easy route, yes just put in a stock stereo.
Hard route, well, lots of hard work and research but if you wanted to, its definitely possible.

So here is what I did. I created a jumper by soldering a wire from the dome light wires on the old harness that used to connect to the factory radio. That solved my door/dome light problem. The trunk light bulb was replaced and I had no idea why it wasn't working correctly untill i realized that the wires that run to the trunk lock activator were cut and were not connecting anymore.

Creating the jumper wire was not difficult at all. I bought my new deck from Crutchfield and they have a customer service person who guides you through the whole process.

pictures are comming soon

Actually I just realized that while the dome light lights up when the door is opened, it stays on but gets much dimmer when the door is shut.

It does not matter if the doors are locked, keys are in/out of the ignition, or even if the car is moving.

I did use the jumper method by joining the two wires on the original harness... and help???

I searched and I found the billions. But each was specific to the persons car and nothing was really applicable to mine.

Plus I am a visual learner. Words are okay, pictures are better.=)

could be your door switch is not closing all the way, so you just barely getting any current through it. I would try opening a door and then pressing the switch and see if it shuts off or does what you described. get a few friends and push all the door switches all the way in and see if it goes off and what not.

MY PLAN WAS TO REMOVE THE TAPE DECK FROM THE CENTER CONSOLE AND REPLACE IT WITH A SINGLE DIN PLASTIC POCKET.

THE PREVIOUS OWNER DISABLED THE FACTORY KEYLESS ENTRY, LEFT IT DANGLING BEHIND THE DASH, AND DISCONNECTED 3-4 WIRES FROM THE HARNESS... WHEN MY FACTORY RADIO GETS IN I WILL TRY AND REPROGRAM IT

WENT TO THE JUNKYARD TO PURCHASE A FACTORY RADIO BUT I GOT IT FROM A 2000 CIVIC WHICH APPARENTLY (FOUND OUT LATER) IS THE WRONG YEAR AND THE RADIO WOULD NOT WORK WITH MY KEYLESS

THE 2000 CIVIC DID HAVE EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED FOR THE POCKET, IT REPLACED MY ENTIRE CUP HOLDER UNIT, I DONT REALLY LIKE THE 2000'S CUP HOLDER BECAUSE ITS TOO SHALLOW AND MY STUFF ALWAYS TIPS OVER. LOOKS A LOT BETTER THAN THE TAPE DECK

DRILLED A HOLE FOR THE AUX CABLE

UNRELATED TO THE AUDIO MY TRUNK LEAKED TERRIBLY AND WARPED THE PANEL THAT COVERS THE SPARE TIRE

FOR 25$ AT HOME DEPOT I GOT A REPLACEMENT PIECE. I TRACED MY OLD ONE WITH A PERMANENT MARKER AND CUT

I USED DAP WINDOW SEALER FOAM TO FILL THE GAP WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMMING FROM. AFTER A FEW ADJUSTMENTS AND MORE FOAM MY TRUNK HASN'T LEAKED.

I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE OLD CARPET WITH A NICE FRESH (MILDEW FREE) ONE

I like how your being handy, and fixing things off topic.
I need the stock stereo for my keyless entry....
:(
Yeah the trunk fix doesn't really belong on here. I got carried away.

I actually bought a stock stereo from ebay for $30 but I could not get it to fit anywhere under my deck because of the different cup holder I installed. I am just going to get best buy to install an aftermarket one. I am sick of taking my dashboard off. Probably did it like 20 times...but i can do it with my eyes closed though.

This guy was good and fast with shipping. I returned it for a full refund minus shipping.
