If any tuner charges him the same amount for a re-tune with cams from the original tune then they are a s***ty tuner.

my thing is if you can make your goal without changing as many things as possible why add things that may screw up. Stage one cams or something like crower 402t are not very aggressive but do add more stress to the valvetrain down the road, not to mention the slight effect they have on MPG, again not much but still something to think about if he drives it every day
no theyre great tuners, just hella expensive. lol

and boost is gonna effect MPG's no matter what lol more air = more gas :word:

and as far as wearing out valve train, I just assumed when he'd upgrade the cams, springs, valves would be done as well. ( I didnt mention retainers, because if you daily a car with titanium retainers, valve float tends to appear when the motor heats up).

and just to let you know, I AM NOT ARGUING WITH YOU. (people on local forums dont take to kindly to others opinions and I just wanted to let you know that so there wasnt any misunderstanding :D ) just want to try to give this guy as much clear cut info as possible :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

right boost effects mpg when your boost gauge is in the positive, those cams are turning all the time so no matter what they effect mpg from every point of the rpm band and no matter where the throttle is at

and adding modest cams to your setup should NOT take as long to clean up as going from N/A to forced induction

Dave Blundell did my first turbo setup on my GSR in 5 hours

did a turbo swap and exhaust+psi change in 1 hour (this is tuning mind you)

like I said modest cams like those should be gravy for any decent tuner

whats hella expensive in that area

Im not arguing either, you do have a good point, I think we just have two ways of getting the same result

i disagree. Changing the cams will change the tune, and it’s not as easy as just changing boost levels. The cams will change the vacuum which will make the ecu read out of a different column. It will need a full tune after a cam change.

but most tuners have a specific way they set up the map so it shouldnt be the EXACT same. and they know what it was already so they know aprox. what changes have to be made (if its a good tuner like he said)

if the car sits in a different vacuum cell after the cams (which it prob will), every cell needs to be changed. So basically your creating a whole new map, which is a new tune.

Not that i know anything about tuning cars or anything

and youre 100% a set of weak stage one turbo cams would change it that much
