Where to place aftermarket CD Player '98 Civic Hatch

It has a factory radio but no cd player. The factory radio has a button to switch from radio to cd.

There's a place at the bottom that looks like it could hold a cd player. Is that where to put it or just replace the factory radio?

if your gonna put a factory cd player then it will go in the lower slot where the cup holder is ...... if your gonna install an aftermarket cd player , just pull out the factory deck and put it there

^what he said. I have an aftermaket cd player where the factory raido used to be but my car also had the factory cd play which is still installed down by the cup holder it just doesnt fuction lol

Or if you dont use your cup holder like i dont ... you can put the aftermarket deck in the lower section and get the block off plate for where the factory was

on the 96-98 center console the lower cupholder part can fit a single DIN unit or a cubby pocket

I'm about to take it on a trip to south Carolina. I need to intall my pioneer cd player. My factory radio doesn't pick up too many stations for some reason.

I guess I need to pick up a harness and install kit today. Probably tune it up too

Just note for models of the 6th gens with remote entry and alarm: If you remove the factory radio, you will loose your remote entry and alarm! You have to buy a special harness that keeps power going to the old radio, as well as to your new headunit. I relocated my old factory radio down behind the cigarette lighter in my dash center console when I installed my kenwood.

The radio reception has more to do with the antenna than the actual head unit. I don't know that replacing the head unit is going to help you out much.

Well I only have a radio. No cd player at all. So at least I can pop in a cd

No factory alarm either

That was to switch from the factory CD player in the center console or the factory CD changer in the trunk.

Either way, remove stock unit and replace with aftermarket one. Simple, done deal.

that only applies to 96-98 model year 6th gen's. not 99-00. the keyless entry module was seperated from the headunit.

so unfortunately if you have 96, 97, or 98 civic the easiest way to keep your keyless entry capability is to also keep your factory headunit installed. otherwise you'll need to rewire the system to 99-00 standards

Correct, the '99 sedan I have has JVC headunit but still has the factory alarm/keyless entry.

If your going aftermarket w/o keyless entry just replace stock radio in its stock location. If you have keyless entry, there are a lot of harnesses that can help you out. If you wanna be a cheap ass just slice the wires long enough to reach where ever you want to put it

Yes. My head unit sits right above my A/C- heat controls. Néed to replace all speakers as well. Doesn't look to hard

Hate to revive such a old thread. Just wondering how easy or hard it is to install a factory cd player in the place behind the cup holders where it should be?

I just purchased one from a member here and want to install it when it comes in.

It seems pretty simple but sometimes it's best to ask for shortcuts and such.

Yeah I suggest buying a decent aftermarket deck with USB also Bluetooth is nice then if you have an iPod could put it in glove box and most likely the radio problem is your antenna however it may just be loose. I never had keyless entry or anything in my ej6 lol some people get all the luck.

I have a deck that will do all that. Then I have to worry about someone knocking the window out for it

I agree with cgpej6..antenna is the cause of the reception...and for the cd player check in the back of the head unit and see if you can install a cd changer...i had a pioneer and i regret it and went back to stock and installed my two amps on it...its alot better..i just had to get the tape with the wire to plug in the ipod.
