this debate is always easily confusing. so to avoid any confusion, this is what you need to know:

96-98: B20B was made with 8.8:1 CR

99-01: B20B (JDM) and B20Z (USDM) was made, both with 9.6:1 CR

if you're planning on staying N/A i would say you want the one with the higher CR. if you decide on a 99-00, B20B and B20Z are eseentially the same thing

since you only require a block, im not sure if the CR's are different due to the heads or the pistons. if the pistons and stroke at the same all years, then it really wouldn't matter which bottom end you choose

Fixed. Hopefully that was just a grammar issue.

Jersey8 nailed it. The later B20 will have higher compression, if that's what you're shooting for.

to add to myself and crash's posts, i just did a little research on the piston differences:

96-98: B20B was made with 8.8:1 CR (P3F pistons - dished for lower CR)

99-01: B20B (JDM) and B20Z (USDM) was made, both with 9.6:1 CR (PHK pistons)

go for a 99-01 motor!

ahh gald to hear that =)
can you please tell me some details about your set up, what parts have u changed?... and how Hp have you reached.
sorry for asking too much =)
thank u
i probably won't be of much help because my setup is pretty basic...
motor is all stock
stock LS trans
pep boys intake
megan header
2.5" skunk2 exhaust
high flow cat
chipped basemap (OBD1) from phearable.net
avid motor mounts
short throw

i removed the PS and AC when i did the swap so my guess is im running ~5 hp more, if that

no idea of numbers never been dynoed, but i did run a 15.6 at the track on a virgin LS ecu. i think i could have had a much better time with the chipped ecu and it was crazy hot that day.
