Ok heres one for you and if anybody can help i'll be very greatful

Ok ive had my share of honda's mainly civic's and integra's well i pick up a 94 civic sedan d16z6 5sp for 500 dollars guy said it just stoped running didnt know why. i bought the car got it to my house and started working on it. since ive had it,I took the head off had it machined to check for any cracks, bent valves and so on,put a new head gasket rebuld kit on it replaced the thermostat, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributer, fuel pump, injector's,fuel filter, pretty much everything to keep a car running was replaced.
well i got finished putting the timing belt on got everything lined up at tdc went to go start it wouldnt start just crank.did a compression test each cylinder was pushing 150 cylinder 4 had 151.so its got great compression, check the spark plugs made sure they was firing right (past) checked the injectors made sure they was putting out fuel (past) ive done everything somebody with my abilty can do.
okay, if the car sits over night i can go out there turn the key it will fire up and putter for like 10 seconds and shut right back off wont start again the rest of the day.I can not figer out why this car will not start ive even changed the computer to see if that was the cause of it and still just turn over nothing. i know the motor is good do to the compression im getting from each cylinder but im down on my luck with figering out why this car wont start maybe it just dont like me who knows lol. but if anybody might know what the cause is please let me kno. the only other thing i can think of is maybe some how the crankshaft pully is not lined up right with the gear but i dont know how it could of happend

When u put the timing belt on i bet u skipped it a tooth on the harmonic balancer.

U can advance the ignition timing and get it to fire correctly. Get urself a timing light and i would suggest redoing your mechanical timing again!

I would say its definitely a timing issue!

Make sure when u put the belt on u dont pull too hard around thr cam gear to where it pulls the harmonic balancer clockwise.

And be careful with the tensioner also!

okay so i did that today it was lined up perfect still wont start the only other thing i can think of is maybe something went bad in the distributer and its not firing right

Ur rotor may be 180 out.
Do u have a timing light available?

Are u still getting spark at the plugs?

the only other thing i could think of it the rotor might be bad cause every time i crank the car when i get out of it i smell gas bad when its at tdc the distributer rotor is set at the the number one cylinder though so i know its not 180 out im just wondering if the rotor might be firing but faulty at the same time cause its such a strong gas smell

A gas smell may mean its backfiring, or that its just not firing at all and you are dumping fuel into your cylinders. If you coat your cylinders with too much fuel you will lose some compression.

Have you tried a spark intensity test? I know you replaced everything, but maybe its just defective parts.

Also, try a fuel pressure test. Doesn't seem like a fuel problem, but its good to rule out as many things as possible.

Is there a security system or remote start wired in? Sometimes poor wiring jobs can lead to things like this. Just a few things to check, I really just trying to help you rule things out at this point.

I've had my car for sometime. One day I experienced the same issues. I ran the same test ect ect..... While looking under the good I noticed a random wire running threw the firewall. I chased it down n found a switch. I flipped the switch n sure enuff it fired right up.

That's one hell of a way to find out you got a kill switch

no there aint any security systems or anything like that im thinking like you said something to do with spark

lol yah that is true that would be my luck cause see the guy i bought it off said he was coming home and the car just died and he didnt know why he towed it to his house and that was the end of it he wasnt worried bout fixing it something somewhere has went wrong and i cant figer out what

They guy I bought my civic from had no idea there was a kill switch either. I must have accident hit it with my foot or something.....I'm not saying this is your problem but it worth looking into

The best bet to find it is to find a strange wire under the good n follow it. Mine went from under the intake manifold over the harness that goes threw the fire wall. The wire want cut into the harness. The cut a hole in the groment like you would running the amp power wire.
