Considering boost

I'm looking into boosting my D series.

I run my car as a daily so I want a turbo that won't blow up my motor, and is reliable.
I don't intend on running more than 8 psi, so I don't think I'll need a giant turbo, just wondering what I should be looking for exactly. I've got a ZC with a z6 head, OBX intake manifold, AEM cold air intake, and skunk 2 cam. that's really all I've got for motor parts, if I need more stuff suggestions would be much appreciated.

based on the prose of your post i would say you need to do a little more research. at least for a few months so you know what you're getting yourself into. i have a few buddies who started heading down the boost route and ended up scrapping the project because they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. knowledge is power.

there is a ton of information on the internet on how to match up the perfect turbo based on the output of your engine and what its potential is.

Check out d-series.org and educate yourself about the D and boost.

That's exactly what I'm doing researching, why not get info from people who actually work with boosted cars?

I'll check out D-series.org, I've seen the site but haven't explored it.

most of us do not want to re-type what is already typed out on the internet. the info you are looking for can be obtained by reading up and learning about what you need. no one can tell you the exact turbo to use for your engine, there are many different types that can be used. after researching/learning then you will be able to pick up the exact turbo you want based on its potential and specifications. if you had a more direct question such as "which intake manifold is best for turbo" or "what type of wastegate is better, internal or external?" then those with experience would be more prone to provide you with answers

Here's a good read on turbo knowledge:

http://beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html

Also, Garrett's website has a bunch of guides, from Basic to Expert:

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/turbo_tech_basic

A few tips on stuff like this:
1. DON'T cheap out. Absolutely NO ebay turbo's, and stay away from stainless manifolds
2. Get a GOOD tune. Tuning is the #1 key to reliability. Pay a professional and get it done right the first time.
3. Set a budget first. Then set a power goal that is within budget. Yours is a daily, so you don't NEED to build the block, but I wouldn't run more that 7psi on a stock zc.

I was one of those guys who went into a turbo after a LOT of research, and even then I was tied up with a few random issues I was not expecting.

Good luck! :thumbs up
