Hello all, looking at buying a civic as a commuter car, found a 1998 DX hatch.
just wondering how long these engines will last. It's got 199,000 KMS on it now.

also, what kind of highway MPG will i see? its the 1.6L
3 hour daily round trip, so good MPG's is a must have

A 98 DX will get almost 40mpg if its in tip top condition. I don't know what KMS is, is it kilometers? I know that DX's with over 150-200k miles can still get pretty good mpg.

I'd snatch it up. 120,000 is good for a Honda. BTW is it an auto or manual?

Cleaner is always better, whats the mileage on the 97? Manual would get better gas mileage than the auto. Really its just up to you.

Yeah I'm not worried about that. Looks like a bit of surface rust. Very common up here with our winters and salt trucks in winter.

:welcome:

Yeah if you drive in salty winters, rust shouldn't be a surprise. My car is loaded with it. I have 225k miles on my car and it still runs strong. Definitely shows wear but it's hanging in there! One of my friends recently swapped out a D16 out of a 96-98 civic with over 300k on it and it was running better than mine.

As long as a car is properly maintained, it can last a long long long time.
