98 ex d16y8 Vtec???

So I have a 98 ex 4 door. And supposedly it has Vtec. The engine is a d16y8. My problem/question is WHY DON'T I actually have Vtec. Nothing happens as I pass the 5200 RPM marker even on up to redline. Just the same pull as usual.

Is there something that's supposed to be on there that's not?
I'm just curious cause I see people stating that the EX comes with Vtec. Not mine.

Thanks in advance,

You have a SOHC so VTEC is only on the intake side. You can't notice VTEC engagement on a SOHC unless you have a VTEC light or an aftermarket intake.

This^ 9 times out of ten you will never hear or feel a difference with a sohc vtec.
You can barreeeelllyyy hear it IF you have an intake. You definitely won't feel it.

Isn't VTEC crossover 5,400 rpm on a D16Y8?

Honestly, it depends on the type of after market intake how well you can hear it. Mine is herra roud, but I have the CF PWJDM whale penis too.

Yea if you're running the car all stock then you prolly won't be able to hear it. But if you have man intake (exhaust and headers helps) you'll hear it better. And also it kicks in at 5500 rpms
