I do mostly portraits and events, but I love all kinds of photography... I don't have a design yet, but my brother is my web designer, can't wait to see what he cooks up, I just need to get the $$ together...

nice man, my sister is going to school to learn photography stuff.
idk i figured just grab a camera, play with settings, and if youve got a good eye, you'll be succesfull. no need for school imo

Worked, worked out again, picked up my car from my parents since my dad changed my rear rotors and pads, dinner and doing some classes online. Off to work on homework and read.
Right now Im shooting with a Sony A350 with the following lenses: 50mm 1.8 (favorite.), 18-70mm (kit lens), and a 55-200mm lens (ZOOM). I started out doing what you said, just picked up an old film SLR camera, and started shooting. As I went on I learned more and more about composition, different terms, how to actually use the settings and what they meant, editing, so on and so forth. If you are just getting into it, I HIGHLY recommend taking KarlTaylorPhotography.com free micro course. The guy is a beast and makes explaining things a breeze. I just made some ramen.... now watching a movie while photo editing.... and Assault, the T3i is a great camera... HD video, and an SLR... makes for great fun...
Yeah it's in sale right now to, tempting, but I'm gonna have to pass. Need money for gas for my sledding trip

Ouch... Yeah I offset the cost of my equipment by doing photoshoots and charging like $50... I did like seven in Dec alone lol....
I might just keep doing that to build a customer base, and upgrade my equipment.... then I'll focus on my prices...
