hey whats going on. i have a 07 cobalt ss/sc and i got a 2008 civic si coupe.
selling the civic soon but my cobalt wastes a really good amount of gas for a 4cyl. and i drive a lot.
i really love the gas mileage of m y si, and ive always heard smaller motors in hondas have even better
gas mileage. so after i sell my 8th gen civic ill be looking probably for a 5th or 6th gen civic for
a DD just to go to school and go to work since i drive a lot and keep the balt for other ocasions.
im looking to spend around $1500.
now my questions are, whats the best type of 5th gen to buy for reliability and gas mileage.
obviously i want manual, hate automatic. really do not care for vtec as i will not ever redline this car.
just need something that will gimme like 35+ mpg. and if someone can tell me the differences of the trims
(ie. ex and all the other trims)
looking forward to getting some responses.

Any of the sub-models should get you 30+mpg. And if you won't be flooring it, it shouldn't be a problem at all. My 99 ex with 225k miles still gets 35-37mpg in the summer and that's 90% city driving.

I'm fairly certain it goes CX, VX, DX, LX, HX, EX, Si. You should be fine with any of them.

For details on each sub-model, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Civic_(fifth_generation)

That does not list actual available/standard options for the car.

Yes, true, but it's a starting point.

All of this info can be easily found and is out there for these 10+ yr old cars.

Just for an example, my 2000 Si (6th gen) gets about 30 city/33 highway (approx) if I don't have a lead foot. My buddies stock 2000 hatch, a DX I think, with the non-vtec engine, gets about 35 city/40 highway. Both cars are manual tranny.

I'd stay clear of the 6th gen si trim model if gas is your main concern because it comes stock with a DOHC motor. Whereas fifth gen's ex and si have the same motor. Just thought id mention it

^^Yep, and alsoI forgot to mention that I don't just use any cheap-o gas with my Si. SOHC uses cheaper gas and still great mpg, and cheaper to buy the car initially.
