1999 Engine swap

I bought a totaled 1999 Honda Civic with a good motor and bought another 1999 Honda Civic with a bad motor. BAD engine has number 8 on the 6th digit, and GOOD engine has number 6 on the 6th digit. Both have manual transmission. can we make this work? Thanks in advance, Sue.

All 92-00 Civic engines are interchangeable. Some require more work depending on what engine you are changing to.

What is the sub model of the car with the bad engine and what is the sub model of the car with the good engine?

You can also look for the engine code, it's stamped/engraved at the top of the engine block, just below the head gasket.

Those motors are interchangeable, will bolt right up to either car, and you can use either transmission.
The 96-00 Civic Ex has the d16y8 motor, which is vtec.
The 96-00 Dx has the d16y7, which is non vtec.

Intakes do differ slightly, but the "good" Dx motor will bolt right into the other car.

The DX will be an easy swap with the EX. If you use the EX wiring harness, I'm not sure exactly how many but you'll definitely have a loose connector that is for VTEC. I believe you'll also need to extend the primary o2 sensor wire since it's at a different location on the DX motor.

The intake / throttle body / intake manifold and exhaust manifolds are different. Do you have the stock exhaust manifold and exhaust from the DX? If not, you'll have to buy them or have someone/exhaust shop make you one. The catalytic converter is built into the exhaust manifold on the DX but separate on the EX so the mid-pipe of the exhaust system is a different length. I don't think it effects the axle back.

Are they both the same transmission?

Reason I ask is because there is a 3 wire IACV on the automatic models, and a 2 wire IACV on the 5 speed models.

Thanks for your input. They are both standard transmissions.
