I just bought this 98 honda civic ek with the 1.6L! The engine is a D16 Y7 and honestly from what I've heard theres not to much you can do with it as far as perfomance. I'm new to the Honda scene and want to give honda a good rep by making this honda clean and fast. My question to all you honda experts is where I should start first as far as engine performance goes which is where im stuck at? My friend suggested to swap the head?

^this but ill go one step farther do research save money and have some sort of a power goal without any of that there not really any point in doing anything. also a mini me swap which is what your friend is talking about which switching to the d16y8 vtec head and intake mani will yeild slight increase in power but not really worth it imo.

get a B series engine..best bang for ur buck....and more power from the strt...also B series has a huge aftermarket perforamce support system...most common are a USDM B16a2,B18B1,B18C1,B18C5 and B20B..research those swaps that should get you in the right direction.

Naturally Aspirated or Forced Induction?

Look at videos on youtube and see which motor catches your eye then look into it. I left my D16y8 alone and got a GSR swap, then JDM B16, then built N/A LSvtec, then built turbo LSvtec, and now finally my N/A b20vtec. I spent a lot because I wasn't sure what I wanted. So find something you know you will stick with.

Well first....you want to decide your budget and power goals. B-Series, H-Series, K-Series, or you can stay D-Series and turbo. There are a TON of options out there. Spend some time reading!
