Give Your Opinion: User Badges

I'd like to know a few things.

1) Are you satisfied with the user badge system
2) If not, would you like them if there were less of them?
3) Would you like them if they were smaller and took up less screen space?
4) Would you like them if they were more exclusive, only being given to contest winners, Hall of Famers, etc..?
5) Any other badge suggestions you may have.


I guess I'll go first:

1) Mostly, though I have a few concerns
2) No, I don't think there needs to be less.
3) Yes, I think it would be nicer for each badge to take up maybe half the space it currently takes. It'd be cool if we could do 2 right next to each other in the same space that one currently takes up
4) I can see the value in something like this.
5) Poll the members to see if they have any suggestions

I honestly don't mind either way.

I understand it's advertisement for the site, IE VIP=longer membo/more posts, Premium=donations, and Mods it's just letting everyone know who's in charge just when scrolling through threads, Anf=letting everyone know he's a great member, etc.

For once I don't have much to say...wow.

My Titanium Member user title changed to Registered User after i got my VIP badge. IDK what happen. lol

You do know that you can edit it, right?

Man.. everyone was complaining, and now we only have 2 opinions... neither of which mind the badges (except one downvote for the VIP).

I just dont understand the point of the VIP Badge. 6 months / more that *** posts; that information is found directly underneath. I dont need a badge showing me who can post in the 'Awesome Titties' thread.

Some are cool though. Awards/DIY/HOF are cool. I'd vote for a '5YEAR' - '10YEAR' Active badge, but again, that information is found on the left hand side.

Agreed. Personally I think the they take away from the meaningfulness of badges. Once a ton of people have them I think that it is kind of pointless to have them.

Id be ok with earned badges, but being a vip because u have no life and post 1000 posts a week(sikcivic) doesnt mean ur any more vip than anyone else!

The diy and mod badges and what not are earned, so they can stay...

But i think a five and ten year member badge is a cool idea. And maybe a post whore badge for people that have been here a year or two and have more posts than most of us 03 and 04ers!

Ok... so far I'm seeing that people want more meaningful badges... I can understand that. Keep posting... this is something that we are actively looking to improve. It's a new site feature... so there are some bugs to work out. Your feedback will help us do that.

I would prefer there to be an option to hide them in the User control panel. a simple check box option would be fine. I personally don't like them showing up on mine but idc about other people's preferences. As long as I could hide mine I'll be happy.

And maybe a post whore badge for people that have been here a year or two and have more posts than most of us 03 and 04ers!

I think i had more posts in the Night Club thread than I have now. Back when Posts actually counted all your posts.

Speaking of which why can't off topic posts count. all forums support the site. The off topic section is one of the top 5 Largest areas on CC.

Yea, Joe. The badges are but there should be a way to turn them of if we do not want to display them. I appreciate the effort you guys put into the idea and then to actually execute. Thanks. But See what you can do man.

I think custom badges would be cool...

I do a lot of LED mods and have a fair amount of electrical expertise, could you somehow make a badge that would say "LED Guru" or something specific???

and not just for me, I think it would be cool if you have stuff like:

"interior expert"
"exterior expert"
"paint master"
"Boost master"
"Turbo"
"Slammed"

Maybe if you made an application process, where members that want a particular badge, could message a moderator and say "Hey I'm good at this, I deserve this badge and this is why"

or have a voting thing where people could say "this member deserves this badge and such and such"

that's what improvements are for.

We didn't program them. It's a pre-made addon that we have a little bit of wiggle room. We can't add new mechanics (such as a member disable feature) to an addon.

btw, we are listening... but Justin is currently away, so there won't be any changes to the badge system until he gets back. So keep throwing us your input, and we'll do our best to accommodate it when Justin gets back. I believe he's already talking about making all of the badges smaller, and there's probably a decent chance that the VIP badge will go away, although I'm saying that on behalf of myself, not on behalf of Justin.

I agree with leothelion. How about badges telling what kind of Civic someone has.

So if I own a 6th gen, there could be a "6th Gen" badge. Or if you guys are feeling REALLY special, you could do model badge, I.E. I have an EM1, so my badge would be "6th Gen - EM1."

This way other members can tell who else has the same chassis as they do. Just a lil thought really.
