Hello everyone,

I didn't know where to put this thread, so I put it here. My passanger driver side back door won't open from outside nor the inside. We are guessing it could be the child latch from the inside. The guy I brought it from has kids so I'm figuring its that. Only way to know is try to get the door open somehow with out doing any damage.

You're stuck between a rock and a hard place. To really see what's going on and access anything, you need to get the door panel off, but with the door not opening, it will be tough. The child lock should only prevent the inside door handle from opening the door. The exterior would not be affected by that. If that door has been stuck closed for some time, I have seen doors freeze up because of corrosion/rust. At that point, I had to sacrifice and cut the door panel open so I could access the inside of the door to see what was going on.

I know! Hopefully I can find someone who knows what they are doing lol. I have a 97 4 door civic. The passanger back door is fine. What we can't get is the handle outside has no slack nor does the inside. Is it possible that the lock inside could be stuck in lock and can still pull up the little stick if its not too short.

Like I mentioned before, if that door was not used often and has been stuck for some time, it is possible, since you say there is no slack in either handle, that the actual lock mechanism could be rusted/seized.

Maybe the switch contacts on the drivers door are dirty or wet of some sort on the saftey lock causing it to stick...?Are the power windows working? :what:

It's happened with my Malibu. I'm usually all for doing it yourself but because the switch contacts are delicate and can cost $$ if damaged, I suggest a professional mechanic to clean it if that is the case. In my case, my father just so happened to be a professional certified mechanic. =)

It's not easy, but I believe it's possible to get the door panel off with the door closed. It would probably help to roll the window down and remove the rear seat.

Maybe, but I'm not 100% sure.
When I had this problem, it was more efficient for me to cut out the door panel, get the door open, fix the problem and go to the salvage yard to pick up another door panel.
