5th Generation Civic replacement engine help???!!

I need some information about getting a replacement engine for my 1995 Honda Civic Dx. It has a bad head gasket, and the cost to repair it would be $1000 minimum, so i figure I might as well replace the whole engine if its going to be about the same price. Anyone know where i can buy a good engine with low miles?

A grand for a blown head gasket? Even if you warped the head you could get another on craigslist for around 300, if that. But if you want a whole new motor there are plenty of reputable sites to order from. Unfortunately I've never been in the market for a motor so I'm not familiar with them. We do have a section on the site that lists sites that are okay to buy from and sites to stay away from.

If your engine was severely overheated, then replacing it is the wise option. It's hard to find low mileage USDM replacement engines, so many people opt for used Japanese JDM engines, which typically have low mileage. For example, I think the JDM D15b is a common replacement for the USDM D16Z6. A reputable site for such JDM purchases can be found here:

Be aware that some wiring modifications may be required to avoid CEL codes. Also check your state laws to ensure that JDM engines are allowed there.

They're everywhere, you should be able to find one for under 400 bucks easy. Also search your local Craigslist.

Low mileage US engines will be hard to find, you could check out some local salvage yards or local Craigslist. Finding another d15b7 to drop in would be ideal as any other d series motor will minimally require some rewiring.

This is correct, if the OP wants the matched USDM engine for his car. I misread the first post to say the OP had an EX rather than a DX.
