STL has the #2 Mardi Gras in the nation. When Katrina happened we became #1. I was partying w/ a girl who is up here currently for work but from NOLA, and she said our party is the exact same as LA, but the parade is terrible compared to LA. Oh..she's 42 so she's seen a few MD's down there..
When all of downtown and Soulard has to be shut down including all the freeways, it's a big deal. We hiked 1.7 miles just from the soul train to the edge of Soulard b/c the roads were shut down. That's as close as we could get.
I still have my beads for when I went before Katrina. I'm not missing much either way. Drinking has even lost it's appeal to me.
