Can Honda engines only be swapped with other Honda engines?

This may seem like a dumb question to some and an absolute retarded one to others. But I want to know if a 2000 Civic Hatchback DX engine can only be swapped with another Honda engine? Or can you put in a BMW engine if you wanted to? Pls don't flame me I'm still just learning. Thank you.

With knowledge, time and MONEY, you can do almost everything, I have seen v8's, 4wd's, and many others modifications, all of them need custom fabrication, if your searching more power on your civic I would suggest you swap to any B-series engine and turbo it

simple more money anything can be done, just stick with a civic or acura motor

Anything can be done. Last car show I was at, a guy had a real Mini (as in the old ones), and it had a B16 in it lol. A 4G63 would be a dam nice swap into a civic, they can make and take lots of HP in stock form.

A VTEC B-series motor is by far the most common swap. It bolts right in, can be inexpensive, makes decent power (depending on which motor) and there's a ton of mods available.

honda/acura engines are more common because for the most part u just need to change engines and axles as well as the ecu computer.

if u wanted to switch to a bmw engine or something like that you'd probably strip the whole car down and replace tons of electronics as well as manufacturing parts to work. you'd probably be converting your car to rear wheel drive and modifying the body heavily. not really a swap as much as you'd be converting your car to
