Hey guys, I found a 1998 civic si(Canada) for sale the other day driving around town. We went to check it out today but we cant diagonse it! We turn the car on easy enough, but the transmission is stiff as hell, it goes into gear with some force...with the car running without any grinding, and when we rev it up the speedometer does not move, only the rpm. Any ideas? there is snow everywhere so we couldn't check for fluid leaks. Going back tommorow in the a.m to diagonse some more! Any ideas guys?:???:

Maybe the speedo doesn't work and one of the axles has popped out of the differential.

Is the clutch pedal spongy or soft?

Any CEL codes?

Ok I figured the axles may have popped, gonna take a jack tommorow to check them out.
The clutch is fine, They car is throwing a engine code, didn't have my scanner on me, taking that tommorow too!

There should not be much more than 1/8" between the axle and differential. It only takes one axle to be popped out for the car not to move.

You can also pull codes by jumping the service connector with a paper clip or piece of wire.

Check the gap between the inboard joint and the transmission on both sides-- where the tip of the screwdriver is inserted.

No,there is no difference on or off, both unreal stiff
This^ suggests a transmission problem. Remove the MTF fill bolt to see whether there is any MTF in the transmission. I think it's a 17-mm bolt.

Also inspect the shift linkage under the car.
