Volvo makers are aliens.

2002 civic si, is disappointing (in my opinion) cause they definitely could have done better. but they where just trying to improve "rigidness" i guess. the dashmounted shifter was a little uncomfortable imo. i like to rest my hand on the shifter. Although it brought in the k series, its just a base model of the rsx. they should have used the type-s version. plus the added weight made it seem slower.
If I remember correctly...the Si has LSD, where the base RSX does not. Also, it may be "just" a base RSX, but as I stated....it's still better than a B16. So I fail to see how it can be a disappointment.

I think it's more the fact that people were disappointed it didn't come with a 200hp platform like the 2006+. Especially considering the fact that the RSX base model came with the same motor and the RSX-S had the 200HP K20A2. Huge disappointment from a lot of people.

Plus the K is a huge step above the B. It's like comparing apples to oranges.
But at the time it came out, nobody knew the 2006+ would come out with a 200hp engine  So the K is a huge step above the B, that was actually my point. Yet this magazine is complaining that Honda didn't put their "flagship" engine in. It's an UPGRADE, so I don't see the issue they have with it :what:

ya but the k20a3 they but in it is a joke compared to the k series family. i owned a 2003 so. it should have been given the sporty k20a2 that was put in the type-s. it doesn't have true vtec.

Correct. The K20A3 is the bastard child of the K-series. I won't deny that at all. That's like saying the Boxter is the bastard child of Porsche....it's still a f*cking Porsche  My gripe is that they make it sound like it was a downgrade from the 6th gen Si.

I would guess people were expecting too much from Honda. You're right, it's still sportier and has more power. But a lot of people were expecting something better than a motor found in the base model of different car :P.

Now that we're talking about, they should add the new 9th gen Civic Si model to this list of wack cars. K24? Really? Lower redline takes away the "Si" sportiness.

Oh I was talking about Tanner Foust. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the drift circuit.

Especially this year when Walker spends 12gs on a LS7 swap and doesn't even qualify for FD.
tanner foust drives a ford fiesta now but thats for rally, he isnt drifting in 2012, think he said he might try indy

But as in the past, Honda wouldn't want to upstage Acura and put their "best" motor in the Civic.

ya but the k20a3 only redlines at 6800 rpms. and vtec engages at 2200 rpms.
So, what's your point?
:what:
They used the lesser motor for Civic, we already know that.
Honda wouldn't put the RSX-S motor in the cheaper Civic and upstage themselves.

2,200 RPMs eh?
Redline rpm and vtec rpm don't matter, what does matter is the powerband as a whole. You can rev to the sky and still not make more power than a lower revving engine. And as far as vtec engaging at 2200 rpm, I'm not sure but I think that with the cam phasers on the k-series vtec changes timing variably depending on which rpm and the load of the engine. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
