Squeak and thud sound after coilover install.

I have recently installed my Function and Form Type 1 coilovers and upon normal driving the littlest bumps in the road make the loudest thud sounds. Is there like a rubber bushing,gasket i could put between the top of the coilover and the shock towers? To somewhat deaden this noise?! There is also a squeak coming from front right that i noticed after install also. Could this be factory sway bar bushings being shot and in need of replacement?

How long ago did you install them? They could just be settling still. Mine made lots of noises too.

Are you sure the nuts on the shock tower are tightened down properly? Since they're a full coilover, there's really not much to installing them as opposed to having to assembly a shock / lowering spring setup.

They have about 500 miles on them and the car has been lowered on them for about a month. City and highway/interstate miles.

Are you sure the nuts on the shock tower are tightened down properly? Since they're a full coilover, there's really not much to installing them as opposed to having to assembly a shock / lowering spring setup.

Everything is properly tightened. Snug and 1/2 turn tighter

jack up your car and make sure the springs are straight going into the little pocket where the top of the coilovers sit..when you drop the car on the springs at an angle they will sqeak and sometimes make a "thud" sound..
:adjusting my old cars suspension, when i lowered it from the jack the coils would sometimes move and wouldn't go in the pocket straight and when driving i could hear every single sqeak from the corner each coil was messed up at

I checked all that yesterday, i guess its not so much of a "oh f**k something isnt right sound" its more of an, jesus that was a loud thud for that little crack in the road. It seems as if its just the stiffness of them hitting the shock tower, almost like there should be a piece of say rubber or poly bushing/gasket between the actual top of coil and shock tower. My original suspension i took out had rubber gasket like o ring around the top where it sat in its place. Thats my concern. I tried to remove the old one and apply it to the coil but it just ripped in half as it was glued into position.
There has to be something.

No new suspension should make ANY noise. After all it's NEW and not old and failing..

There has to be something.

You should have some rubber or poly insulator between the spring and the top hat. If you don't have these in, I'd say that's you're most likely cause for the noise.

Picture shows an OE top hat with a new insulator.

Also make sure when you install your suspension everything gets torqued when the suspension is loaded. Otherwise your bushings could be binded which could potentially cause some noise and wear.

I recently put the FFtype 1's on my coupe and they always have squeaked. I read the brochures and notices they sent with the coilovers from WekSos and they said that it is normal to squeak.

As for the thud...mine werent so sensitive until I absolutely slammed it...like, my oil pan is an inch and a half off the ground. after I did that, they are really sensitive and make the thud when I hit EVERY acute angle or pot hole/bump.

I also noticed that because I cheaped out on the camber kit that I bought (feebay brand) the bushing in the front started creaking pretty badly after they dried out, once I lubed them up real nice with some astroglide they stopped.

It's a bit nerve racking, but as you know...with a car slammed really low, your sacrificing function at higher speeds unless you're asking for damage.

if the car is really slammed the thud sound could possibly be the upper control arm hitting the strut mount part of the body. mine did this on my eg sedan. open the hood, look next to the strut mounting bolts, you'll know if its the problem cause the metal will bepushed up and you'll be able to see the indentation of the control arm.

like 2slo said, its prob cause they arnt preloaded so when you lower the car back down to the ground the spring isnt sitting in the hat and allows it to move around causing the pop/thuds.

Normal to squeak? lol... and people wonder why I don't recommended their stuff. Your suspension should never squeak, especially if it's new.

This doesn't happen very often and the spring(s) will almost always seat themselves correctly after a tiny bit of driving. It's not like there's a whole lot of room for them to move around and the suspension is pretty much always loaded unless under hard cornering where the opposite side is unloaded.


But these are Function & Forms so maybe these thuds are just normal lol

wouldnt be surprised if it was your control arms hitting the top or your tie rods smacking the pinch weld on the frame
