Replacing the AC stuff under the hood?

HI

Im looking at a DAMN clean civic to buy as a daily driver. However the A/C has been removed... The stuff is apparently still under the dash, but not in the engine bay.

Also the car was swapped with a non vtech D16 from a EK
Does this mean id have to use an EK compressor? Does that require custom lines or custom adapters?

Will it be a PITA to get the AC back in the car and working??

Very new to hondas (come from AW11 and VWs)
So I don't know what is backwards compatible ETC.
Thanks

I believe that you just need a D series compressor, year shouldn't matter. You should be able to find the lines and everything you need off of a junkyard car, 92-95. Can anyone confirm?

There are so many Civics out there. Why not find an unmolested bone stock one with A/C and save yourself a lot of headaches? You are likely to find that the swap was done poorly, as well as other issues that will become evident later. This could turn into a nightmare.

What year and trim Civic?

Are you sure the evaporator behind the glove box has not also been removed? I would think that 94-00 Civic R134a A/C system components are interchangeable, but don't quote me on that.

It looks clean enough, More importantly the suspension has been overhauled (bushings, coils, ETC)
Fresh paint

He has the head to do a mini me setup, but I dont care about all that.. If I was gonna do the work I'd stick a k20 in.. I don't want power I want MPG and clean lol...

Last car I bought with a swap was done perfect.. It was an AW11 though.

He and His buddy did the work..

This car is 2 hours away from me, where i live you either travel and pray or buy a rusted truck if you dont want to spend more than 3k

Again, if at all possible, do yourself a favor and find a bone stock Civic that has A/C and has been treated well. If gas mileage is your priority, try to find a Civic VX. It has the D15Z1 engine that gets amazing gas mileage.

What do you know about the engine swap? He installed an OBD2 engine into an OBD1 car. Is he running an OBD1 or OBD2 ECU? Were the correct wire harnesses used or did he create a cut-and-splice nightmare? Are any CEL codes thrown?

I seriously wouldn't pay any more than $2K for the car, though I would most likely just pass on it.

What's the closest city where Civics are more prevalent? Maybe a friend there could scout Civics for you. Alternatively, post a WTB ad in the Marketplace and on other Civic forums. But again, your preference should be to find an unmolested bone stock Civic. Rankings for gas mileage:

92-95 Civics: VX>CX>DX/LX>EX/Si
96-00 Civics: HX>CX/DX>EX>Si

Considering what I was driving, any civic is a gas mileage consideration. I'm also considering making it my only car, since I've always had 2. One for fun and one to beat around in. The prospect of something slightly nicer that i can rely on and drive comfortably (A/C, space) in the summer is getting way more appealing. My mr2 was amazing, but without a A/C and with those stupid T Tops it was an easy bake oven in the summer. That car made me decide that I'd never go without A/C again lol.
