Hello to all, new here and to Japanese cars.

My name is Mark and I have only owned American and a couple Euros. I am currently trying to sell my 03 E500 and buy a Civic. Having 2 V8s is getting kinda pricey, especially when they both take 91 octane gas.

I'm looking at getting a 6th Gen Civic. I like the way they look the most. Coupe or sedan, doesn't matter. Preferably a Sedan though.

A little about myself; I'm an Airport Fire Fighter in the Marine Corps and stationed in SoCal. I am, however, originally from Minnesota.

I've honestly never even thought about looking at getting a Honda or anything before until recently. My wife and I are trying to budget everything and since we both don't want to sell my GTO, the Benz is what is going. It just so happens that since Civics are so cheap and cheap to maintain, that was the obvious replacement choice.

I frequent a ton of forums and I am a moderator on another one so I am aware of the etiquette for them. "use the search" is something I am all for. It's all in the way you type it in the search for it to work for you. Some people just don't get it.

Since this is a newb post, I suppose pics are in order. Here are some of the E500 (that's for sale) and the GTO.

Thanks for reading, I hope I find the Civic I'm looking for.

Thanks, I hope so. It looks great, I would love to find a white one that's not a manual (wife has to be able to drive it). All the ones around here seem to be 5 speeds. The sticker on the window is funny.

Get a 5 speed. U will regret an auto in a 4 banger. Teach the wife how to drive a stick. Its not hard to learn...

Hey I'm auto...lol...but I'd say get a 5 speed Honda autos suck balls unless they have low miles...I can keep up with a 5 speed if it's stock but then again I only have 100,000 on my tranny.

Welcome!

Coming from those nice cars you might not like the giant step down that the Civic is. You have to be a borderline lunatic to "enjoy" a Civic riding on coilovers, although out there on the left coast you know how much better the roads are than in the midwest. But you've got it right, they're cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, and they do look pretty nice with a set of rims. You'll probably find that those with an auto trans actually run a little cheaper than those with manuals. They do around here, anyway. And as long as you get an EX, you won't be too disappointed with the auto. I'd avoid a non-VTEC motor with the auto though. Were you going to do modifications, or just enjoy the 35+ mpg?

Haha I have tried... She's not willing. She get car sick easy and herons movement of he manual gets her sick. She has to take non-drowsy Dramamine when she goes with my through the canyons in the GTO!

That's my goal, finding a 6th gen with an auto and a swapped in vtec. I've found a couple for under $4k, is that a decent price? One I found was $2800 for a 97 with 192k Miles.

HA! See how newb I am? I just re-read that and now I know that the EX trim levels had the vtec stock. Now I know what to look for!

2800 is too high for almost 2k. But it all depends on your area. Just continue to shop around. I think you would enjoy the ex or the si trim model the best. The si only comes as a five speed though. They both come with vtec motors, they both have all of the enjoyable features you may like such as cruise control, power steering, sunroof, power door locks and windows, and they may or may not have ABS.

Good info, thanks!

Also, to answer a question I missed. I will be modding it a bit. Mostly aesthetic, tasteful mods for appearance. I'd like to keep the 35mpg.
