I'm new to these little cars. I'm a diesel nut so I dont know much about these. I have researsched as much as I can but there's just so many motors. So which motor beats them all which one is the best I'm someone who goes big or stays home when it comes to performance but I don't need nothing crazy. Which motor is the est motor that I'm able to swap in my 96 civic.

Thanks in advance

That's such an open and relative question.
It will come down to how handy you are around the garage, will you be doing the swap yourself?
Budget, how much do you realistically have to spend.
HP goals, will relate to budget.
You can do anything from a simple d series vtec swap, up to a V6 Honda swap, which will be more intensive and expensive all the way around.

Figure out those questions on your end, research what motor best fits YOU!

it all depends on how deep your pockets are and what the car is going to be used for. The D-series is a motor that people do not put much faith in and would even laugh at a D-series at a race track..but when that d-series powers that car to 8 seconds on the 1/4, no one's laughing

Keep the old D series, replace the seals, build the internals, swap a vtec head if it doesn't have one, and boost the sucker.

If your not worrid to much about the price of things, then you need ask your self dual cam or singla/. vtec or non? A good dual cam engine would be the b16a witch is what i like cause its good power for the price. Also a b18c1 would be a good engine, but its a little high priced for not much more power that the b16a. Si vs GSR. But another good dual cam would be the ls engine the b18b2 its non vtec, but its a good power increase from a single and its not as pricey as the dohc vtec engines. You can also easly boost it with stock internals and it will hold. But for single cams i'd only run about 7 psi boost on those, and my top two favorite d series engines are the d16z6 and the d16y8, the y8 has more horse from factory and better torque. but I think the z6 has better compression. But you could always get a freak engine and put it in, like a k series or h series. k series is about a 5 grand swap and the h series is not much less.

Keep the D yo! Find yourself a good tuner and you can run a stock D to 15psi maxing at 20. I know it sounds ridiculous, but the tuner I know can do it with ease. Bump the internals a bit and you could see 20 constant. Also, parts are a lot cheaper! If you need parts for the head you only need half of them due to single cam advantage. Plus, less hassle with swapping engines, yet alone finding the engine you want.
