What's Wrong With Your Civic Thread!

Saw this on Clubrsx.com, and thought it'd be interesting to do here on clubcivic. Just as the title says, list what's currently wrong with your civic!

-Salvaged Title. (I really should have carfaxed. Lesson learned...)
-Paint is absolutely destroyed (all around. Looks like previous owner Maaco'd over the already worn factory paint, with no prep).
-Suspension is shot (tokico blues all around, but all are shot, as well as springs).
-Axles are shot (CV joints torn on both sides. Ridin' dirtay).
-Headliner is destroyed (bought a new one, trying to locate sunroof slider), sunroof slider is destroyed.
-Door panel plastic (armrest cups) are broken, although material looks good, so you can't tell.
-Passenger door panel is pretty beat up.
-Cat just recently took a s***. $400 or so for a cat here in CA, so that's not getting replaced.
-Oil leak from transmission seal/gasket.
-Relatively certain that my valve seals are done, as I go through about a quart of oil every change.
-Motor mounts are bad (front two, haven't checked rear).
-Small crack in top of radiator, a tiiiiiny bit of coolant will leak out and makes my SRI filter and radiator look like I murdered a Ninja Turtle with them.

On the bright side:
-Brand new AEM SRI, DC Sport 4-2-1 ceramic headers, 6000k HIDS, rear tires, brand new window motors and actuators (both sides), Pioneer head unit with aux and iPod support.
-Little car still runs great and gets damn near 35mpg on the freeway.
-Alignment is friggin perfect, and car drives straight as an arrow.
-A/C compressor still works, is just going out, so when the car is moving, the a/c is ice cold (seriously as cold as a Ford's... most impressive A/C I've ever felt in a Honda).
-Full tune-up done 3k ago (wires, plugs, brand new dizzy, timed and tensioned belt to specs, Seafoam both engine and fuel system).
-2000 front and rear end, Si tails.

I got majorly hosed buying this car. I really should have researched it more, but I went three months without a car and was going crazy, so I just bought it. Never again, and this will likely be my last civic (sorry guys, but these EKs feel cheap as hell). Next up: A DC5, then onto a BMW.

  • pulls to the right i'm pretty sure because of uneven tire wear (will replace tires in august before i go back to college)
  • high idle until car is fully warm (i think it's my FITV, doesn't bother me much)
  • CEL basically for no secondary o2 sensor and no catalyc converter, and exhaust leak

no problem man
and its defintly a project man
I'm really on the fence about it as a project car due to the title. Here in CA, civics are already a dime a dozen, so salvage civics (built or otherwise) are CHEAP. No one wants them.
If I don't trade it in toward a DC5, I'll DD the DC5 and I'll start tearing this EJ8 apart completely. We'll see, I guess.

get a dc5 for the daily and just tear the ej8 down to frame and go hard on it with a restore/rebuild/boost project

That was the original plan. I probably should, considering I'll be lucky to get $2k out of it the way it sits.
If I do build, it's gonna probably be a k20/24 hybrid boosted. I aaalllmost bought a k24 complete bottom end a few months back for $450 :!:
It'll go on hold until a little while after I get the DC5. Gonna do a Skunk2 Pro black IM and TB, Cams/Camshafts, I/H/E, KPRO, and rims/lower the DC5 first, not to mention tint, alarm etc. I'd like to net 230-250whp on 91 octane daily driven, then I'll start building the EJ8.

Well I just sold my Civic about 2 weeks ago, but to list what WAS wrong with it. It had no torque. Handling was blah. It wasn't very aesthetically pleasing.

'00 Si
- Driver-side window motor went out
- Driver-side corner of bumper has small chip in clearcoat

'86 Si
- Doesn't run...yet
- Rusty underneath, pretty bad too but it's only going to be an autox car anyway

'85 CRX roadster
- Stolen, that's usually not good

And for kicks, the '05 S2
- Key FOB or whater cracked back cover off, so now it's superglued shut (wore out the ring almost as well)
- OEM CD player no longer ejects
- Light bulb went out in cruise control + A/C buttons
- Dented driver-side 1/4 panel (2 different hits)
- Kicked-in driver-side door
- Driver-side bumper got hit the other day
- Door-dinged driver-side fender
- Top has usual Honda wear tears. Patched, but still
- Driver-side window trim is slowing down motor
- Steering wheel + shift knob are showing their 129k miles worth of wear & tear
- Just cleaned up the timing chain tensioner, not bad at 120k vs normal 60k range
- Replaced differential in December

I think that sums it up.

- Bad clutch slave so I lose an entire reservoirs worth of fluid within 1-2 days of daily driving
- Bad power window motors (they work but windows go slow)
- Currently no A/C belt since A/C stopped working a couple years ago
- For some reason my power window adjuster switch stopped working but I never need to adjust them anyways
- 2nd gear sometimes pops out

That's really it. Other than the problems listed above, the car runs 100% perfectly fine and I absolutely love it.

-CEL from downstream o2 sensor even though I replaced the sensor -.-
-speedometer works intermittently
-random low idle
-passenger window doesn't work
-drivers side window pops off track
-trunk light flickers on and off at random when open
-could use some brake pads
-oil pan gasket leaks
-o ring seal on distributor leaks oil
-2nd gear synchro is bad so have to skip 2nd.
-cuts off when you drive it too hard.
-headliners dirty and needs to be replaced
-visors are torn
-rear seats faded at the top.

Just a bunch of random little stuff minus the transmission. It cranks right up and drives wherever. Never overheated, very dependable.
