mymmeryloss is 100% right, not harsh.
Don't listen to what people heard and are trying to pass off as fact. Read the sticky sections here.
To put it in perspective, and this is the key to Forced Induction, PSI is IRRELEVANT. aim for WHP goals, not psi goals, every compressor (turbo) psi rating is dependent on sizing... so with a T3/4 or a t25@ 4psi = different hp gains.
I have built several gsrs on stock internals in budget build situations that are around 10k miles @ 250 - 300 whp. it comes down to the quality of the parts, the tune and the driver not being a retard. reliable parts = a reliable build, a good tune adds the longevity, but none of it is cheap and easy.
Spray can be run the same way if you tune for it properly, the advantage to a turbo is.. you never run out.
Read, learn and stop listening to gum flappers that are "experts" unless they own, built and drive a turbo variation of the motor in question, their input is as good as horse s**t.
That was brutal lol...
But yeah. Boost + GSR = boom, unless you put quite a bit of money into it...
100% false
I daily a b16a turbo (almost the same compression ratio as a GSR) stock internals, and a GT225R making 250WHP / 185 ftlb
am close to 25k miles post build, not even a boost spike or A/F leaner than 13.8 to speak of.... it can be done reliably and last a long time if you do your homework and don't douche it up.
