I have a 1999 Honda civic cx that I'm planing in building it has about 146xxx should I rebuild my engine first then build? And on that note what do I need to upgrade to be able to turbo it?

Before you do anything answer these two questions
1) Are you willing to spend $800-$1600 on a turbo D16 build
2) do you have another vehicle for use of transportation in case anything goes wrong.

Building a D-series motor for N/A is going to be costly
Turbo and tuning is the best power gain you can get for a D-series under $1,000 for up to 230HP maximum, other than that you need to upgrade stock internals

I, personally would rather save up for a B swap , build up the internals THEN turbo it much later, 300HP+ and I could probably be at par with my brother's turbo Impreza WRX STI

i am in a similar boat here ... i was planning on turboing my d15b7 after rebuilding it but this is my only car at the moment. so i am building up the suspension and brakes ... fixing all the little body damage (dings, dented hood, key that only starts the car and opens nothing else), adding a tasteful body kit (nothing ricey, i am a former DSMer), wheel and tires (already ordered) and get a decent sized cat-back exhaust 2.25 to 2.5 (something that may still be good enough if i turbo). probably goona save for a b18c5 swap. costly i know but worth it i think ... but i am still considering buying a d16z6 abd building it for RELIABLE turboing (the my HP goal is 200whp), i don't want to have to work on the car every weekend like my DSMs or sr20det 240sx i had (lost both in divorce, neither of us have them) . anything more than like 250-275whp on a fwd street car is a waste imho. i would say save for a b-swap also ... or go balls out for a j35a4 swap ... those things make like 240chp. people say they are heavy but is it really much heavier than a d or b with a full turbo set up? probably not.

There's no way you're going to get anywhere near 230 hp out of a D16Y7 for under $1,000.

I'm planning on boosting my JDM B16A in my EM1. Getting ready to buy the internals and all the parts so I can properly boost her. Then next is to mess with the trans so it doesn't do one wheel wonders. My goal is to get 300 to 350WHP daily driver =) maybe closer to 400 if I feel cocky!

Oh I have the money for the build by the way, so its whenever I click the mouse button or go to the local shops to order my parts.
