My honda civic

Project Number 001

Hey guys, I'm not sure if anyone remembers my thread I started awhile ago which got deleted, probably because I forgot about it entirely. But good news is, I am actually working on my car right now and its going pretty good so far, just adding some stuff slowly into it. Hope you guys can appreciate where this is ending and where it will end up.

Story time:

I always loved the coupe Civic of the 5th gen ever since my dad got one in probably very early (probably around 1998-2001). Unfortunately my mom kinda killed that car after awhile. But thats where my love for this car started. Plain and simple: I thought it was one of the greatest cars to ever be manufactured. Now onto my civic and background.

I got my Honda Civic earlier this year in March a few days before my birthday. Bought it at an auction for $975.
clean title, outdated tags though. Car didn't run because the engine was knocking bad, Put two Gaping holes in my oil pan, so that had to be replaced as well. Me and my did originally tried to fix it, but opted to get another D16z6 from another car that was not being used. Got it for $600, Has about 150XXX miles on it, but not sure how many exactly it had. Regardless to say, it works well. We dropped that in along with a new timing belt and water pump in Late march and had it running by april.

Now that the car was running I could get to work fine now, but the car still had some minor problems:
-Driver side door Window doesnt roll down well, (Drops in at a certain point)
-Driver side door lock won't open
-Missing corner lense for driver side headlights
-Paint fading
-Cars not lowered :(((((((((((((
-Missing a Radio
-Poorly poorly tented windows
-The sound system wasn't installed correctly (wiring problem)
-Headlights don't work on low beam at night (high beam works fine though)

Needless to say it had quite the problems and more to find.

The job i had kept dropping my hours, insurance was killing me with some bullcrap with nationwide so i had to nearly double my insurance payments or find a new insurance company, and on top of that family issues were getting out of hand.

The end of the story was I got kicked out cause my Dad chose my step mom over me and my brothers, lost respect for him, but honestly that was one of the greatest days to finally leave that hell hole, now im in a nicer environment and lots of work space. I switched insurance companys and paying a third of what i would have paid, and finally i quit my previous job and got another job almost doubling my pay.
So pretty good ending, And i never looked back. :D

Pictures will be up soon. As in like less than 20

I feel really stupid now, but is there anyway i can ask you to remove the first one, or is there a way i can personally remove it?

Anyways i got some pics of me replacing my air intake with an AEM short ram air intake.

Took out the resonator box and air intake/filteration system.
Has a nice deep sound.

Questions though, Should i keep the resonator box out or keep it in? is it bad to keep it out?

Also i came across a problem in the past week. My car after about maybe 5-10 minutes after driving around, my RPMS are starting to consistently stay at 2-2.2k, and I'm not sure whats going on. I know that if i pull the gas pedal up, the RPMS drop to around 1k which is about where i want it at. So do i need to adjust the idle screw or is there a deeper issue?

After replacing the stock air intake system i still have this problem so, looking for helpful answers :/

enjoy the pics=)

How much you want for that snorkel? (the little piece above your ratchet, between the resonator and stock filter in the pic)
Shipped to 32780...

To answer your question though, you can leave the resonator out, it won't hurt anything.

$8-15 for the shipping. So yeah ill send a pm for shipping info.

Also i got some goodies =)

Got a new Valve cover coming through the mail as well, should be here within two weeks so thats gonna be a good day :D

but for now: these will do =)

Also if anyone could help with the problem i've been having as far as rpms are going, Heres a quote of the thread i made.

My 1994 honda civic Ex coupe is idleing at 2-2.2k RPMS almost consistently while the clutch is engaged or in 2nd gear. All the gears work but im not sure if something is wrong with my 2nd gear, also if i was too go from 1st gear to 3rd gear, MY RPMs would probably be around 1.5k.

i checked the FITV which seems to be a constant problem for hondas, didnt look like it was unscrewed or anything but i screwed it back down and losen it a bit as instructed.

If i reach down and pull the gas pedal up, the rpms will drop to 1k where im acustom to it being.

I haven't really checked coolant yet, as i've never done that before so ill probably check it out first thing tomorrow to see if i need some or not, not sure how to check for vacuum leaks either so that would be greatly appreciated if thats the case.

Also i HAVE recently installed a new AEM short ram intake about a week ago, The problem has been going on for about a month now and i've been using it as minimum as possible as im a delivery driver and actually have to have a car to work. over the past week though its gotten worse reaching higher into the RPM band, Its killing my brakes cause when i try to brake the rpms are high and its like my car is trying to accelerate and brake at the same time, Almost had a accident just today and decided that, thats it. I absolutely have to find this problem and fix it.

Also idk if this helps or not but, I noticed that when i first turn on the car and drive for the first 5 or so minutes i dont have the problem and its not such a big deal at night either, so im wondering if that would be coolant related?

Heard a loud squeal noise earlier today when slowly coasting in first gear at a stop sign during traffic.

Please and thank you for all help.

Nice, keep the progress coming!
Thanks =)

Also, im in the market looking for new headers (cause I want to take the heatshield off but it looks freaking nasty, so a new headers would work fine :D ) and i was looking at the megan racing headers from here since they are relatively cheap and probably better than stock headers, but i just want a more knowledgeable opinion regarding where i should get good quality, sexy, clean headers from since im not that experienced in that department. Would be appreciated =)

Are you looking to eliminate the cat converter when you purchase your new header?

It could be your IACV being dumb. My car used to idle up and down between 1k and 2k while in neutral. But my friend showed me this trick where you put a piece of small cardboard inbetween the IACV and the intake manifold where the 2 ports are and then manually adjust your idle via the screw.

But if you are able to pull up your pedal, it might be that you pedal is sticking. Not sure though. Don't quote me on that.

I merged the 2 threads so there wasn't a duplicate.

But if you are able to pull up your pedal said:
I agree. if have to physically move your pedal up after you've taken your foot off, is mechanical not electrical/sensors. Either the pedal assembly itself, or maybe the throttle cable? Maybe even the throttle body's butterfly.
I'd start with the pedal, see if anything hanging up or sticking, then just follow the cable.
Possible cable kinked when the engine was being changed, or maybe the end at the throttle body is loose?
Let us know what ya find.
And sorry about the home situation, dude. Glad you seem to be in a better place, though.

Thanks guys, i have the solution.

So i intially thought it was a pedal issue or a throttle issue as well, but somebody recommended that i seafoam my vehicle. I thought to myself i need to change the oil and sparkplugs anyways, might as well try it out.
So i put 1/3 into my gas tank, oil, and brake line booster. I noticed that my car didnt burn off that much carbon deposits, but i drove it around anyways and noticed that my car was actually fine after that.

I was wondering what could have been different and i still think it was my oil. Cause i know i have a oil leak, but it was incredibly small and i am pretty sure its my valve cover gasket going bad. So i changed the oil and put in some new oil and my car is running like a champ, but i should probably invest in new headers as my current ones are getting oil slowly dripped on.

Anyways i got a new valve cover gasket, spark plug wires, spark plugs, and oil cover to put on. Waiting on my valve cover to come in and then i change it all out in one go. Right now im just shelfing it until then.

New Engine Bay pic!

Got some new stuff put in the engine bay =)

Mirror Black VTEC D16z6 valve cover
NGK spark plugs
NGK spark plug wires :D
New oil cap

in other news...

I've been hearing some noises while driving and im almost positive its the suspension, mainly happens after a small bump in the road so ill probably order some new struts/shocks and lowering springs soon.

Anybody know what tools ill need to do a spring/shock replacement and probably the alignment as well? Will be the first time, any help is appreciated and enjoy the pics :D
