D16Y8 recommended oil check: warm or cold?

Hey, my Civic didn't have a manual when I got it. I know at least one car I had in the past (Pontiac. Eww.) recommended that the engine be run until warm, shut off, let to sit for a few mintues, and then checked. Usually I just check them, the colder the better (to a certain point) I was just wondering if there was anything like that in the official recommendations. I seem to be mysteriously loosing oil, and I want to keep accurate track of how fast. I never did notice much difference checking my Pontiac whether it was warm or cold, but you never know.

Manufacture recommends the engine be warm/running temp

Your suppose to wait a bit so the oil can drain back in the crankcase do you can get an acurate reading .

Best to check when the engine is warm. Also make sure the car is sitting on level ground. Checking on a hill could give you a higher or lower reading.
