Unless you have a swapped high-compression motor, you are wasting money. High octane gas is less prone to detonation under higher pressures than regular octane. It actually burns less effeciently than regular because of those properties.I only pump premium/91 octane Chevron gas in my '96 DX sedan. I've noticed that I always average at least an extra 20-30 miles per tank (~350-400 miles/tank) than when using 87 octane (~320-380 miles/tank). That extra $1 or $2 at fill up is worth the extra overall miles I get. Also, the car just seems to run smoother.
I usually shift around 3k and coast to red lights, stop signs, and traffic. With my 100HP motor, I'd rather see how many MPG I can squeeze out of my car than how many cars I'm not faster than.
That's what I said and have already done - I get more miles per tank/fill-up when I use 91 octane instead of 87 octane.Unless you have a swapped high-compression motor, you are wasting money. High octane gas is less prone to detonation under higher pressures than regular octane. It actually burns less effeciently than regular because of those properties.
Calculate your mileage using the above posted method with premium, then again with regular, and report back. I bet you'll see the difference and it won't be the result you are expecting.
