Hello fellow 6th gen civic lovers,
I own a '98 civic that I use as a commuter 80 miles a day.
It has almost 130,000 miles and I absolutely adore the car.
I get a standard oil change on it every month (It burns 2/3 of that a month) and keep it "healthy", meaning I repair it with all stock parts and keep it in great condition where it counts. The body has some dings, but it's almost 15 years old. I consider it to be a modern day classic as it is completely and utterly reliable, comfortable, and super fun to drive.
Anyway, on to this main reason for this post.
Today I took a curve around 20-30mph after it had rained, and the tires had lost tread and I did a 720 spin.
I ended up facing backwards, yet rolling in the same direction as I was originally going.
I figured that I blew the transmission, as it took me a second to realize I was rolling backwards in Drive.
However, the car had turned off. So I was freely rolling backwards (I threw it in neutral when I noticed) and the engine had been killed as the RPMs were at 0 and battery light was on.
My question is this: Is there something in the Civic computer that knew what happened and killed the engine/transmission? After I safely backed it into a parking lot (Yes, driving backwards with the driver behind me wide-eyed as we stared at each other) the car turned back on in an instant, went into drive, and I went on my merry way. There was a slight burning smell that happened after the incident, but not more than a minute.
Any ideas? Or something else happen that I'm not aware of? I really thought I fubar'd my beloved civic.
Thanks for your time in reading this!
