Center console blank spots

ok what are the blank spots like on the center console /armrest and beside the moon roof buttons for?? did they have a factory purposes like options or they jus for the hell of it jus wondering

Go to Japan for a while and see the crazy traffic and amount of people and cars and you will then understand why it's useful lol.

i am sooo doing the 99-00 climate control conversion for 2 reasons......better buttons and a actual CUPHOLDER!!!!!!!!!! not a waste of space to sit ur cup in and have it dance all over the place
