New here so any help would be great!

Just bought A 97 civic lx sedan for driving back and forth to work,

It has a whine/hum in the dash that seems to go with the rpm of the car.

When turning the cruise on it seems to take ahile to lock in and doesnt seem to lock on the speed I set it at. Speedo is also 5 mph fast, dont know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Its a five speed and seems to shift hard. the oil was really low do to leaking out of the output seal where the cv axel goes in. I replaced that yesterday and added oil , not the honda non friction oil (didnt have any) Seems to go into gear better but still feels stiff.

I just added oil since it was really low because of that leak. I'm a Honda noob so don't know all that much about them.

Flush it and use Honda oil. Honda transmissions are very picky about Trans fluid. Even if that doesn't fix the problem it needs done. Even the owners manual will say use Honda transmission. In extreme circumstances use regular oil then soon as possible flush and use Honda oil

The whine is more than likely coming through the speakers and is called alternator whine. Does it have an aftermarket stereo? It is a ground issue. Very common with cars that have aftermarket systems.

If I remember correctly the cruise on the 6th gens is vacuum activated. Check for vacuum leaks and check the cruise module under the hood to see if there is any tears or separated hoses going to or coming out of it.

Thanks for all the help so far guy's!!

What do you flush it with? And is the royal purple a mtf? I dont have a close honda dealer but do have a napa that sells royal purple. But if it puts me in the same situation im in now I will just order honda oil. When you do the flush and fill is everyone going through the vss or the actual fill hole.

I would only use Honda fluid. Order it if you have too. Normally a flush would include a drain, refill, drive, drain, refill, in a DIY type setting, in other words you flush with fresh fluids. I personally would just drive it for a good while, get the fluids really hot then drain it and refill.
