Haha that's always an option. Then if it started to flake, it would be the clear and not the base

Exactly, a good paint job is all in the prep work.

I'm in Carlisle...
thats not that far, i know of one who might do it for beer and gas money lol

Really now? Well I was counting on around 5 cans of primer, 5 of paint, and 5 of clear. I didn't think any painter could beat that, but maybe it is possible.

As far as all that other stuff, I think I'll pass lol

Reed you werent steering me away from doing it. Ive just read up quite a bit on doing this with spray paint as well and it seems more often than not, the person doing it is highly unsatisfyed, you gotta think its extremely tough to get all the grease and such outta that bay in order to get a good coat of primer down, then sand that and wash it, then another coat of primer, then scuff that then wash, then paint, scuff, paint, wet sand, wash, clear, wet sand, clear. if you plan to have the car or the pay painted down the road, people have numerous times regretted it because of the extra amount of effort that has to go into the prep work in order for the "professional paint job" to stick and look decent.

not to be the bear of bad news but continue researching this.

Theres such a thing as paint stripper. You brush it on and spray or wipe it off.

Its pretty easy. Definitely easier than sanding.

Just extra work the professional painter has to do, on top of the already expensive bill. No biggy!

I just shot my bay with a gun and single stage paint. Cost me about $75 for everything I needed plus I have paint left over

Yeah I agree. It's something to factor in for sure.

If and when I eventually get my car painted, I plan to most of the prep work myself to save on cost.

That's a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, I only have a 5 gallon air compressor...

well good paint might cost slightly more than all that spray paint, but still
Yeah, that's true

Well I did some little stuff over my week off.

Removed the transmission, clutch, and flywheel since I will be keeping the trans and hopefully selling the block.

I picked up an Si/GS-R strut bar because I like the simplicity and its about half the weight of the ITR one(which is for sale by the way). Just needs a good coat of paint.

I decided not to paint the engine bay so I cleaned it really well. I got every place I could find. I think it turned out well.

The plan for winter break is to have the engine bay completely ready for an engine. I'm going to pull off the fenders, bumper, and headlights and really clean behind those areas. I'm also going to redo the headlight harness and I've got some cool ideas for that so stay tuned.

What did you use to clean it?

edit: btw your headlight tuck DIY was really helpful. Thanks.
Purple power (basically the same thing as Simple Green), paper towels, and old-fashioned elbow grease. Once its nice and clean, hit it with some Turtle Wax express shine to keep anything from building up, kinda like waxing it.

Glad that how-to helped you. I'm going to change my set up some so I'll take some more pictures and add them to the DIY.
