Weird cold starts

Hello c.c.
Well my civic seems to be having a hiccup on cold starts. I recently did a tune up with middle of the road ngk wires, plugs, distributor cap, rotor. It seems like when I start it when it is real cold it fires right up but hesitates at about 500rpm before going to 1500rpm until it is warm. Also I have noticed that even when I drive, the rpms will be at about 300rpm at idle. It would idle that low but still feel smooth. Any suggestions?

honestly drawing a blank on that one
is that the only problem with the car?
did you check the timing?

That is the only problem with the car, if it's a problem. Besides that it runs great. I haven't checked my timing, that is where I am still new with cars. How should I go about doing that? Sorry but I need to start somewhere haha
Thanks man

I get the same thing sometimes, when I first got my Civic the first time I was able to drive it I stopped at a stop light and the idle was super low (at that little line above the 0 RPM mark is) and it sometimes would do that every once in a while but I replicated it after I changed my plugs and did a valve adjustment and it would idle super low almost to the point of shutting off but it idled smooth.

The plugs were only a couple thousand miles old when I had taken them out so I put them in to replace some older plugs (about 10k on them) and I believe they were colder plugs than what were in there so the ecu wasn't used to it I guess or something so you can try resetting your ecu and seeing if it changes anything

1. Did it do this before the tune-up or only start afterwards?

2. Cold startup rpm should be aroud 1500 at idle, then drop to around 600-800 when warm. If you didn't adjust the dizzy then its most likely not a timing issue, since you would not have done anything to change that.

3. Try running the car at idle with the air duct off, and block off the IACV port on the TB with your hand. If the engine stalls then your IACV is working. If not, it means the valve is stuck closed and not allowing air into the intake, causing the low idle. How does it accelerate?

Thanks ne0tas, I'll try that.
At 00si, it was doing it before the tune up. It accelerates great ... well D series great haha

Not to jack this thread but ive noticed about the same thing with mine only my acceleration is sluggish till around 2,000rpm unlike yours. As you said quite confusing.

Yours could be your cat getting clogged too until there is enough air being forced through it.

Sounds like a different problem. Start your own thread and I'll help you there if you want.
