Just bought a civic ex 1998 red coupe. On the way home (300mi) the check engine popped up half way home. the brakes weren't working as they should. The brakes went soft and when I tried to slow down the wheel started shaking. I had this problem all the way home and can't think of anything to fix this along with a burnt smell when touch the brakes! Also had the fuel gauge move up and down as I was driving along with the rpms fluttering. Camshaft sensor maybe? Any help on these problems are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!!

Wtf did you buy?! First off your pads/rotor are mostly bad(shaking), second you most likely have air in your brake lines or a leak. Rpms jumping can be a ton of things, elaborate further.

I will diagnose the check engine light tommo.. so how do I test my rotors or pads?

The rpms jump then go back to normal and the engine sputters. The car has been sitting for 3 mnths. Any additives you reccomend?

Octane booster never hurts. The rotors and pads you can check with a micrometer. If it was me I'd eyeball it or take off the pads. The rotors will most likely have big cuts in them, DO NOT touch the rotors after just driving. It's sucks if you do

New pads and rotors.

Might need bearings also.

Maybe new tie-rod ends. Mine just went out also. Feels like the car follows every crack in the road

did battery die or did you disconnect it? if battery died in those 3 months it will take a little for the ecu to re learn what it has to do. i had this happen in my 98 dx s couple times

Sounds pretty simple. How much would rotors pads tie rod ends and bearing cost me? Wouldn't hurt just to do it all at once. Any aftermarket reccomendations?

I've always had disks on all my cars so I couldn't tell you which is better and obviously I've never had to swap them. I've helped plenty of friends and its really not hard. I need to swap my on my car, my lca mounts are bent to hell

Sounds pretty simple.. could the shaking be caused by bad or warped rotors and just need a turn or replacment??
