CD player install questions.

My car didn't have a CD (or tape) player in it when I got it. I'm just wondering how the cage mounts in it, and then how to go about securing the back of the unit so it doesn't move.

Does anyone have any pictures of the head unit hole with nothing in it so I can make sure nothing was damaged or cut out of mine?

Thanks

You need a dash kit

Stay away from the BestBuy one if you have a 6th gen

Well I have a cage for my Sony already, it won't work?

And this is posted in the 5th gen section, so I don't have to worry about one for a 6th gen, lol.

So yea, does anyone have a picture of what the opening is supposed to look pre-cage installation?

For the 5th gens there is no dash kit. Take the cage off the deck, put just the cage in the slot and take a flathead screw driver to push the little triangles on the cage out. The more triangles you push out, the more sturdy. Then pull your wires through the cage, pull them into the deck and snap it in. If you want pictures lmk, I work at a stereo shop

/\ Thought so. That seemed to be the general consensus from all the things I've read. Now what about securing it in the back? Or does it just sit there and lay still, not vibrating?

Thanks again.

Well I got that all figured out, so thanks on that.

Another question though. My climate control lights don't light up. The little green ones for the pressed in buttons do work, but not the two #74 bulbs. Now I've been thinking they could be burned out, but isn't there a fuse that is for all the button lights?

Because the lights behind the defroster, mirror, cruise, etc switches don't light up either. So is there a fuse?

Oh and also, our antennas aren't power, right? And where behind the radio can I attach the dimmer wire?

with ALL those lights out, sounds likely to be a fuse. check that first, THEN start looking for unplugged or cut wires or burnt bulbs
antennas aren't power. did your car still have the factory head unit plug, or did someone cut the wire connection off? Mine has the plug, and when I installed my aftermarket unit, It doesn't dim with the lights. (I matched wire to wire on the plug kit)
so, don't think yours will either

check fuses first and go from there. it is possible that all the bulbs need to be replaced, but odds are better its a fuse or another problem somewhere.

There is no lights behind the cruise, mirror, and defrost on the 5th gens? The defrost and cruise only light up when they are pressed iirc.

Correction: I'm sitting in my car right now about to leave work. There is a light in the cruise switch that lights up the word. No lights in the mirror or defroster switches though.

Ah, well thanks for the input everyone.

And yes, some jack a** cut the factory plug out. I removed it from the dash, all the way to the fuse panel and got a spare from a junkyard, unloomed everything and re-did it all back to factory. I just think the uber-basic headunit just doesn't have the function.

Also, as for as the fuse goes, my underdash diagram is gone. I've looked at pictures online, but nothing seems to stand out. You don't know which one I need to look for, do you?

Thanks again though.

Does your gauge cluster light up?

Gauge cluster lights up, defroster lights up, and not just the green light to show it's on. But the lettering for cruise doesn't, and none of the climate control lights light up. Car has some 230K miles on it, could be just burnt out.

Everyone keeps saying fuse, lol. I thought these didn't have one for these lights? Because from looking at all the images of the fuse diagrams under the dash, none of them stand out saying "Hey! I'm for the climate control lights!" I only see instrument lights, and interior light, which I assume means the dome light.
