No these type-r motors are always a b****. The only way I can do this right is using a crank pulley puller, you actually need a harmonic balancer puller. Looking at light weight pulleys since the ctr one is mia. Anyways two little guys and a huge breaker bar, should have this done in no time.

You can rent the harmonic balancer from Autozone for $20. I've had to do it twice.

So what exactly is the issue? You can't get the crank pulley off because its spinning when you apply torque?

That's one issue, I just need someone to press the brakes. The other issue is getting the pulley off. Then finding if the key sheared or fell out

A good trick to getting the nut off (thats what she said - har har), try having a buddy stick a pry bar in one of the teeth on the flywheel (assuming you have manual trans) and lodge it against something to lock up the motor

What makes you think the key is bad? Is the pulley spinning independent of the crank?
