97 Honda Civic LX engine question.

Sup guys. Got a couple questions.
So I have a 97 LX. Only mod is the cold air intake.
I've noticed that when I'm in 2nd or 3rd and reach about 5500-6000rpms's
I get like a pause or lag? I don't usually drive my car like that, but when I did
that is what happened.

My other question is:
How important is it to get a oil change in the winter time? I was supposed to get
another oil change at 166,000 on 11/27 and right now its at 168,000 on 12/13 lol.
The old man told me that oil changes aren't really necessary during winter and to
just keep checking my oil. But I feel like he's wrong.
Any feed back helps. Thanks!

As far as the lag is concerned, that's just the powerband. If you look up a dyno chart of a stock D16Y7 you'll see the power kind of drops off there so I'm guessing that's what you're noticing. As far as the oil change, get it done. It's just as important in the winter time.

....but just because a tag tells you to get an oil change at certain intervals doesn't mean you have to..it also depends on how you drive the car..most shops will do 3000 intervals when 5000 is still ok with regular driving..i don't change my oil for atleast 7-8000 miles

I agree with this if you are using a full synthetic, not conventional.

If you look at the manual on a 6th gen it actually say 5,000 miles. Oil change places say 3,000 because that's how it used to be and it just means more business. You can just look at your oil and judge how dirty it is, not a scientific method but gives you an idea.
