What does R title mean? Salvage title?

Assuming you are in New Orleans, I wouldn't travel to Philly to buy a salvaged EM1.

I guess it really depends on how good of shape its in and if you plan on trying to resale it.

Haha, I almost worked out a trade for my h22 swapped Ex with that guy a few months ago. This was before he put "R" title in the ad. Once he said "R", I said no thanks and walked away.

Depending on what u plan on doing with the car the title situation may not be that big of a deal.

R just mean reconstructed... basically a salvage title. He said all that happened was the door was hit and pushed in, but that the previous owner had it replaced. And I live in New Orleans, but my mom lives in PA and I visit her pretty often, so I'd just drive it down after (if) I got it. And if there's no damage, I don't see the harm in it. Especially considering it's a real Si, $3500 seems like a steal.

And I plan on using it as my DD to and from school. Might end up selling it if I find a nice, clean, and cheap EX Ej8 that I could use as a platform. I have alot of mods I want to make, mostly aesthetic at first (not ricer-like at all), but eventually I'd want to do a GSR swap if I got an Ej8.

Coming from a person who has owned 2 EM1's, I can say that if you con somehow talk this guy down to $3500, you are crazy good at negotiating. I was looking at this car a little less than a year ago myself.

The R title only means that insurance won't give you the full deal, according to good ole Google.

With everything that this guy is giving away and all it has on it, $4700 is a great price. Plus, if this owner says he has all the receipts, and can prove that the passenger door is fixed, then all is well.

Watcha mean they wont give you the full deal? By the way, I'm not looking to get the best insurance, just liability basically, since it's the cheapest.

And I'm guessing thats a "Yay" from you? lol

Yea, I meant that they only go so far with coverage.

And yes, that's a "yay." In all honesty, I wouldn't have your heart set on paying 3500. If I was this owner I wouldnt take less than 4500. But that's why everyone has their own luck. haha

Good luck to ya man!

If u have a loan on the vehicle u will need full coverage.

One thing to consider heavily is that the cost of just replacing a door is not even close to enough to cause a car's title to be salvaged. So there must have been some significant damage.

I may be wrong but i think the cost of repair has to be around 75% of the vehicles current value.

Just a fyi in case u didnt think about it that way yet.

Otherwise it looks like a nice deal for $3500

You forget that this is a civic. I've seen a civic get "totaled" by hitting a fence. Depending on the damage to the door, there could have been damage to the front and/or rear fenders. Shops that replace that stuff don't buy eBay doors and fenders, then there's paint, and all that stuff that inflates the price like labor, etc. I'd believe it could have been "totaled." Got my completely stock, clean titled EM1 for $4k. I'd say with everything it comes with for $3.5k it'd be worth it. You'll be hard pressed to resell it with the title situation, but if you aren't in any big hurry to resell it after you start DD'ing it then I say go for it.

That was actually my point. If it were just the door it wouldn't get totaled even with paint and labor. For the door to not open it would have more than likely had damage to the floor pan and a/b pillars as well as fender and quarter. Which would require frame work which really drives up the cost of repair. I understand this as i am a certified collision repair technician.

Sorry i wasnt clear in the first post.
Good luck either way.

Op- if your not worried about a rebuilt title then get it. If it was fixed correctly it should be fine.
