The Club?

Hello guys. Th just bought my third Civic. This one is a 2012 SI coupe. I am concerned about theft of my new ride. Do any of you guys used The Club, or some variation thereof? What's best? How about LoJac?

In short, are do you protect your car from theft?

I don't hear too much of the new cars getting stolen. Most go after the earlier years but you can still take measures to protect yourself.

There's a bunch of things you can do that can help but if someone wants your car enough they CAN take it.

The club is worthless, too easy to pry off.
Lo Jack is useful, but kind of expensive.

A removable steering wheel pretty much makes it impossible to steal (unless they happen to have another steering wheel with them.... unlikely).

Kill switch is nice, so long as it's hidden somewhere that's actually hard to find (AKA, not anywhere that someone would mention on an internet forum.)

Alarm systems can be disabled without a whole lot of work, from what I understand.


If you have the money, I'd grab lo jack. If you don't mind carrying a steering wheel with you, a removable steering wheel is a great option.

If neither of those describe you, invest in a kill switch.

2 reasons the club doesn't work: 1) the thieves cut through the steering wheel at the point where the club attaches and slip it right off and they can now use it as leverage (big breaker bar) to break the column lock. 2) if they have a flat bed or one of those hydraulic tow arms they can take it with the club on it and deal with it later. The first one is how one of my old beetles were stolen. Came home from work to find broken glass in the driveway and my club in the middle of the yard. Few feet away were chunks of the steering wheel.

The flat bed/tow arm applies to the removable steering wheel as well, but the removable will at least deter the ones that don't have a truck.

You can't stop a flatbed. A blinking light on the dash will deter 90% of thieves.

Viper has an optional GPS locator for one of the alarms. I would look into that.

I install these on a daily basis. If they have any idea what they're doing then its useless. I'll bump my security thread, read through it

I had a buddy that had his car stolen twice in TX (Had an alarm system). After he started putting a boot on the wheel and a sticker on the windows about a GPS tracking system, it was left alone (couple years now). Extreme? Maybe... But if you like your car enough and moving isn't an option what can you do?

The club can work when they come to steal it be in or by the car and beat them with it

The keys in newer cars have a chip in them which needs to be there to start the car (on factory alarms) so it'll be like a kill start system. You should be fine but if you want extra security I suggest compustar

Any alarm you get should have at least a 2-way pager system. Anything less is a 100% waste of money. Basic alarms are very easy to bypass. At least with a 2-way system, your remote will go off if someone tries to steal your car at your home so you can run out and deter thieves. Having a tilt sensor is the next logical step so towing it is more difficult without being noticed. So if your serious about protecting your vehicle, chose a system with those 2 options at least. Clifford or Viper!

Nope. Bigass magnet on the hood over the battery will drain it within a few minutes. Then flatbed away
