Wassup everybody. I got my first honda just recently and have wanted one ever since I seen a tuned one on the street. Its a 1997 civic EX coupe with 17in black and red katana blades and a type R exhaust. I want to start tuning it as soon as possible but wanted to know is there anything I should know or take caution of before I start. The first thing I wanted to do was install a new intake whats the best brand or type for my car?

17s are generally a bit too large for these cars but not too terrible, and u mean a legitimate TypeR exhaust modified to fit your car or the owner just put some random exhaust on their and told you it's TypeR? Pics of the car. Since your in California just get an intake thats carb legal like AEM or weapon R or something but it won't do much other than make it sound a bit nicer.

The rims arnt too bad for 17's. Personally too big for me. But focus on maintenance first. That is always priority. Make sure the exhause piping isnt rusting out. Then probably want to look at suspension. Not too much you can do to that motor without turboing it. Maybe a year in the future once you've done your research, and got your car sound and reliable. Look into a b series swap. Dont even need to mod it and it will be better than that motor modded in my opinion.

Yes maintenence, that's always where your first priority should lie before modding. And I concur with the comments states above for the wheels. EJ's look perfect with 16s IMO. 17s are a wee too big.
And as far as what to do, RESEARCH for any questions you have. Because 99.99999% of your questions have been answered on a Honda forum of some sort. And research what you want the car to be used for, power goals, budget.... etc.
Other than that, welcome! :hi:

Boys: Be nice. At least he's admitting he's new and isn't being a cockbag about it like most ;)
