Hey everyone. I've had a 96 DX hatch for a little over six months. I use it as a work car. While my baby (02 Mustang gt ) sits in the garage. I was looking into getting a new mustang but recently started to think about modding this civic. Here is some info on the car

-96 DX hatch 5 speed
-135K (10K put on it in just unde3r 6 months.)
-very relible, but not pretty at all.
-Power NOTHING, everything is manual. No ac no powersteering. this must be the base model.

I'm no mechanic, but i know my way around a car. everything done to my mustang i've done myself (blower, upgraded fuel, gears, suspenstion ect). But I dont know anything about these cars.

So i guess my question is. Should i save this car and slowly make it something special as i DD it? I'd probably start with everything that would make it ride alot better and more reliable. brakes/shocks/struts/springs/lca all that stuff, Make it looks better than it does, then possibly prep for some kind of swap.

Also, is there a more active form than this? Or something that you guys use for modded civics? i appreciate all the help.

First off welcome. Car doesn't look to bad ,minus the dent in the bumper. Bumpers are easy to find if you're not looking to do body work. You've got yourself a nice low mileage Honda. Yes, DX is the base model along with CX and HX. I say, fix the dent, clean it up, lower it or however you see fit, and just keep it as a good gas commuter cause I'm sure your mustang doedsnt do great on gas.

I like the car. Its really good on gas. Ive seen these civics modded and some look really good.
:welcome: Some look awesome if done right.... and some look horrendous if not

If you plan on a motor swap in the future I wouldn't do much to the engine now. If you're looking for a suspension upgrade, most lowering springs / shocks / coils tend to make the ride bumpier. If you're looking to make her pretty, lowering it is one of the nicest ways to do so. You don't need to slam it low, but something to rid of the wheel gap. That, with some clean wheels and maybe a front lip and she'd be looking pretty good!

Considering you're used to Mustangs, this car will be a lot easier, and much more straight-forward. The DX you have is a great base. As others have said, if you want to keep it a fun little DD, I'd suggest lowering it, cleaning up the body (rear bumper, maybe restore paint, Civic Type-R front end etc.), throw some rims on it, and enjoy it! If you're more interested in getting power out of it, there's always swaps, boost etc.

Well, im always interested in going fast. Im just no sure how much money i want to throw into this, when my mustang will be getting the majority of my mod funds. but, the mustang is almost done and this could be my next project while i pick up another DD.

Anyone know any links where i can find some good info on Motor types, common swaps, common turbo setups? I really am just looking to educate myself so i have a general idea where i want to take this car.

I tried google search, but im really not sure what all the civic "lingo" is.

If it's gonna be your DD i'd just get a drop, wheels, lip, grill and clean up the headlights

Here's the sticky on swaps

There's a ton of info on this website in regards to everything you're asking about. Do a couple of searches for "motor swap" in the forums, and check out the forced induction section of the forums for boost info.
