I need advice

So I recently purchased my first 1997 Honda Civic EX coupe a car I've wanted since I was about 7. I just had my engine checked by my uncle who works on cars for a living and has been doing so for a very long time. He says I have a good engine and could start modding if I wanted too and i had a few questions.

1.) Where should I start when adding more power to my engine( Intake, headers, turbo etc.) and if there's anything about them i should take caution about.

2.) I have 17in rims on my car(im debating about changing them) does the size of my rims effect handling or acceleration? Because all the REAL racers I've seen at the track with Honda's have smaller rims but they have big lips is there a reason?

3.) I know you can get lowering springs to change the ride height and increase handling, but do all springs lower the car to the same height? or are there some that lower them like 2in?

Adding an intake, header, and exhaust sadly won't give you much on a stock d series motor. If you want real power out of the d-series motor you'll have to go turbo.

The only thing that'll effect is the weight and maybe the tire size you have will effect your speedo and possibly handling..Lip kits are used not only for looks but to have less air allowance to flow under the car causing front lift

different springs have a different heights, so some springs are 1 inches, 2 inches, etc. I haven't seen springs go lower that 2.5. Depending on the look you want you can go with springs or coilovers (adjustable)

1. Don't do I/H/E with a D. It won't add any power, and you'll be paying alot of money for a little bling under the hood and <5hp. Either swap it or boost it.

2. The main reason for smaller rims is because it just looks right on our cars. Big rims just make it look rice and ghetto as f***. Also, smaller rims also allow you to drop your car. With 17" rims, you wouldn't be able to drop it very low.

3. Check out coilovers. They are adjustable, so you can lower/raise your car whenever and however often you want, just remember to always get an alignment. If you are dead set on getting just springs, then the answer would be yes, they do have varyious heights you can choose from.

For the wheels question. We run smaller diameter wheels on track, but they have a larger lip because they're typically 8" wide. I have a 16x7, but will be running a 15x8 wheel for the track. I think 17"s are a bit too much for our cars, and would consider changing those fairly quickly.
When it comes to suspension, it depends on what you're looking to do with the car. I focus all on my suspension for the most part because I attack time on the track. If you're looking to put around town and look good, go with a Ground Control coilover sleeve with a Koni strut. If you call Ground Control, be sure to tell them Patrick with Team Lightspeed Racing referred you. I know them personally

WOW, your car looks and sounds great. How'd u get it to sound like that? Mine has a big muffler on it that makes it loud but not really loud

Thanks, man. I just have a Gs-r with an intake. Sometimes I run open header at the drag strip, which makes it quite a bit louder.

And really loud street cars are not the business. I'm hesitant to put on the N1 exhaust I have because I know how loud it is

go low db with an exhaust. Don't want any unwanted attention from the police, or setting off all the car alarms on the block when you pull up to the house.
