What have you done to your 5th Gen Civic Today?

Today I pulled my ej coupe out of the backyard and into the garage. She is getting a full make over. New OEM front bumper, type r lip kit, d16 5 speed conversion( poly bushing all the way around, short throw shifter, braided steel clutch line, stage 3 clutch, s20 tranny), 3inch exhaust, and more to come. Disc brake conversion?, maybe even turbo kit.
I've got some older family in Southhaven, but haven't been to visit in a few years. Glad we've got some Civic guys out that way. And a stage 3 clutch, that's pretty heavy duty, isn't it? My brother put some kind of upgraded race type clutch in his 88 Integra, and unless you plan on drag racing your car or putting a high HP motor setup later on, I would NOT recommend doing this. On his, you have almost 0 clutch slippage, and pretty much have to dump the clutch to go anywhere or keep it from stalling out. NOT fun for daily driving

Thanks a bunch James. I am downgrading to a stage 2 but do you think it will handle 300hp? That is the goal I am shooting for.

I'm thinking about trading car for this

Its an 93 EJ1 shell. And I worked out a deal with my buddy. Trading a guy my si wheels for a d16z6 swap. Going to give that to my friend plus $200 to get his LS swap.

every company has their own "stages" and specs, so I'd suggest checking with the manufacturer about the abilities and tolerances of their clutch.
I replaced the clutch in my 92 civic with an Exedy organic clutch, and works fantastic. Ok, so my engine's only a d15b7 with a header, exhaust, drop in K&N, and good plugs/wires. But it has good engagement, the car scoots when you mash the throttle, and I'm not having to dump the clutch at every stop sign.
Are you honestly expecting to get 300+ hp on a d series engine? I don't think it's possible. Sorry.

Really? And they're street driven? Sure, it may be possible (look at the crazy s*** that Bisimoto does with single cams) but I'm speaking in the context of a street driven daily, not a high boost drag car. So, I'll amend my previous statement to "Are you honestly expecting to get 300+ hp on a d series daily driven civic engine? I don't think it's likely or within the realm of most people's budgets. Sorry.

Are you serious? YEAH STREET DRIVEN

Rod/pistons and a good sized snail will make 300whp all day, no crazy cams, no race fuel. It's been done probably hundred of times by now.

Holy snikey! I stand corrected. But, I gotta ask. If it's really that easy and affordable, why don't more people have them?

no one likes civics is why

did you just say snikey?

Fast civics can be built overnight now and for dirt cheap if you have the right connections, case in point

Sold my buddy my B18a from my integra for $180
$100 dollar ss autochrome manifold re-welded braces and typical cracking areas
$40 dollar DSM 450s and resistor box
$80 dsm 14b
$80 dollar 255
$100 FPR
Oil lines were like $60
pan tapped for free
$100 dollar ebay intercooler (in all fairness I gave it to him)
$40 piping
$80 first gen ssqv
like 600 into hondata

Not sure what he paid for the swap parts as that is his second b series in that car, but I bet when all said and done, there is less than 2k in this whole situation. Like I said, having the right connections makes all the difference.

yup, said snikey =)

and agree that connections really CAN make a difference in the cost of a build. Free or discounted used parts can really lower the budget. However, the example you gave was for a B series build, not a D. Someone had mentioned Vitara pistons? Sounds familiar, isn't that a Suzuki?
I know the Passport was origionally an Izuzu, but does the D series engine pistons share similar size with other makes?

Yeah it's Suzuki vitara pistons you can buy new for pretty cheap and pair them with either custom or eagle rods.

cool. I'd not heard of that cross application. I know that people have used pistons from the 1st gen Integra in their D16z6 to raise compression. My brother has a few sets around the garage from his 88 teg, thought about "borrowing" a set from him a few times
