check the VSS for a disconnected wire first. do any of the other gauges on the cluster work?

yes everything else seems to function fine. its a cluster from a crv with the orange. i pulled it from my sedan to put in this coupe. what do you mean check the vss for a disconnected wire?... do you mean the plug that goes on the top of the vss

I don't have access to a factory serv manual, but if it's not a mechanical VSS, and changed both the cluster AND the VSS, only option is the connection between the 2. Is that wire linked to a fuse? Is that wire/signal processed by the ECU? Is it grounded somewhere?

More then likely it's the vss plug most of them get crap built up in them I've seen it over and over on civics

dont i feel dumb, i was looking at the interior fuse panel and i seen 1 labeled " altenator / s sensor " and i pulled it and it was blown. replace the fuse and works perfect now. my altenator has seemed weird lately also, maybe this will get 2 birds stoned with 1 joint.
