Stock vtec or import and swap

My 93 coupe is dying so I will be picking up something new next month. I know that there are different vtec with different displacement and cams. I want the most power at the right price. From what I under stand I don't want a baby vtec or a mini swap. If I buy a car with one in it, what am I looking for?

My next question is that I am looking at vtecs on eBay for 1200 bucks shipped to my door. Would it be better to do a swap. Can I get my hands on a better engine tht way. Ultimately I am going to run a wet nos system if that makes any diffence too

If you're looking for a car with a swap already in it, look for one with a DOHC swap like a b series, H series, hell i guess even k series. (proceed with caution though, you never know what problems might come if they didn't swap it correctly)

and yeah it's more safe to swap the motor in yourself.
don't look on ebay, too risky. use hmotors

Here is where I am at. I heard that jdm imports have issues because the motors sit and they do alot of idling in Japan. I called a mechanic about doing a swap in my 93 and they said that I am looking at 2500 bucks because I would be going from auto to standard. He recommended that I buy a standard and I would be looking at 1500 for labor. He then said that his brother had a 95 that's already done with 230 hp turbo ready for 3500 bucks. So I am going to look at that. If that falls through. I am stuck as to whether to buy something else and swap. Whether I stick with my own car or buy something else I am looking at 4-5 grand. So any more advice on the topic would be appreciated.

If you really like the car you can keep it and to an auto to manual conversion but it would be easier if you buy a 5-speed car, that way you can just swap in the motor your gonna buy...

I have been doing lots of calling around. I have talked to jdm importers, mechanics and people with cars for sale. I get the sense that I should buy something that has already been swaped. I really want to see what that mechanics brother has for sale. I found another one with a mini swap sohc turbo. Stock except head lights and roll cage. It's a 91 and he is asking 2500. Do I want to stay away from the sohc?
