1. Moderator is not a paid position. We are all volunteers. We work normal jobs. We only do this job because we're dedicated to CC and want to play a personal role in its betterment. Please remember this when complaining about things that aren't done as quickly as you'd like them.
2. My above comment is meaningless, as I just went through all of the reported posts in the moderator lounge and they were all handled promptly. If they were not handled, it was because we did not believe they needed to be addressed, as there was no rule breaking involved.
3. Suggestions are suggestions. These are questions made in an inflammatory manner, not suggestions. If you have some serious concerns, we can discuss them in a rational manner. If you don't, then please don't make inflammatory remarks.
4. Many people call CC home, and have done so for many years. While CC is not perfect (and we do strive to continuously improve it), it is doing something right to have the dedicated community that it has. Once again, please remove the hostility.
While we've tried a few things int he past to boost CC's tech aspect, CC has never been the king Honda site for tech. It probably never will be. While HondaTech easily has us beat in that department, they have nothing on us in the category of forming a comfortable community of members who grow to know each other and treat each other with respect. We are what we are and HondaTech is HondaTech. You shouldn't, for a second, think that they match the ideal vision of what CC aims to be. Now, to be thorough and answer your questions:
Been away for awhile, but what exactly do moderators do here?
Are moderators even needed here?
Needed is a strong word. No, not needed. However, I do believe that we improve the site. If not, I'm sorry, but we do try our damnedest.
Do you do more than just address obvious spam and troll posts?
Yes.
Do you spend any quality time in the tech forums?
Personally? I don't. I don't have the kind of tech knowledge to give sound advice. I'm a moderator because I'm good at working through problems / idea generation and I'm good at working with people. People are at the heart of what makes CC what it is. In addition, I'm a longtime member who has a desire to improve CC. I am not a tech guru, nor will I be. I don't think it's a necessary trait in moderating. We have members that can handle that department just fine. That's where the forum aspect comes into play.
Do you attempt to maintain some semblance of site organization by ensuring that threads are posted in appropriate forums?
Yes. There are many threads and we don't get to them all. There are also some threads that we don't move because it doesn't serve any further purpose than confusing the threads previous participants. We make the best decisions we can with the information that we have.
Do you address reported posts?
Every single one of them, and promptly, I might add.
Do you eliminate duplicate threads?
Yes.
Do you call this Club Civic because moderators exist in their own isolated club in the Off Topic forums?
That doesn't even make sense. I don't know how to respond to this.
There's many good things to say about the Club Civic layout, but there's little good to say about moderation, from what I can see.
Well, you admitted earlier in this post that you haven't been here. I don't see how you can have an objective and insightful viewpoint when you haven't been around. Regardless, I answered your questions. Please present them in a more respectful manner next time.
