Chances of fatality on a streetbike are huge not because of rider ability, but because of your surroundings and other drivers.

Sure being a good rider will help. But if someone blows a stop sign or doesnt see you then size of bike makes no difference.

Battery powered cars are not better for the environment than gas powered cars. The batteries emit toxic pollutants into the air and the charging process is when they are all released.

Batteries only emit toxic chemicals when destroyed, or thrown in a landfill, and during production. As they are, they don't produce or emit any toxic agents, the way that carbon from a gas powered vehicle does. Electric cars aren't an end-all-be-all to our carbon footprint issue, but they are a step in the right direction (source here).

On top of the fact that lithium is a pain in the butt to get, and the fact that a large portion of the world burns coal/oil for power still..

Lithium is sorta kinda hard to obtain, but it's plentiful, and plans are underway to develop different methods of extracting the stuff. The other elements needed for electric vehicle development, however, are a bit harder to obtain (source here).

Let's see... NO more fuel costs, better for the environment, the possibility of ridiculous amounts of power. Yeah, it's not going to sound like a V8 or anything, but that's the beauty of the car. Power when you need it, and smooth DD'ing when you don't. As far as charging, yeah that's still an issue, but not that much of an issue in my opinion..

no fuel costs? you still have to pay for electricity and wherever that electricity comes from might not be very environmentally friendly. the battery material mining as well is not a very nice process. also as you may be aware batteries do not last a long time. so when they need to be replaced there will be the cost of disposal as well as any materials not being recovered will end up in a landfill. ridiculous amounts of power comes with ridiculous amounts of weight. unless you want a even shorter range. and the charging will always be an issue for most people.

IAnd as far as the charging concern goes, there's a supercharger option you can get for faster charging

45 minutes is still a long time. plus if you run out in between charge points it's not like you can walk to the nearest charge station and fill up your red jug with electricity and then go fill up your car enough. if u run out u get towed. you certainly can't get it going on your own.

lets not forget about diesel here. how are battery powered cars going to transfer over to more important vehicles. like semi trucks. they get from 5-7mpg usually and really do feed the economy of this country. battery powered semis will never work. they will have to be fuel cell or perhaps natural gas. imo it would be much more beneficial if the government would have rather backed fuel cell vehicles instead of battery powered ones.

I wanted a streetbike then while i was gone my wife saw 2 bad wrecks with bikes involved and told me no bike or no marriage. Now i remind her of my life insurance policy. I didnt want to start on anything less than a 600. I know i will do stupid s**t though. I will probably never own one because i realize that i would be that crazy guy.

Maybe if you dry hump the motor extremely vigorously, you'll generate enough static electricity to be able to drive home?

It's not like they're planning on changing shipping trucks to electric too. The biggest concern is the regular commuter. That's what they're after. And charging stations are gradually increasing in areas. It's new technology, it still has room to grow.

I am currently sitting in my room listening to pandora having an itch to drive since I just filled my tank, but don't wanna waste the gas because of my short paycheck. Damn dilemma.
