eh I like low and fast. but skid plates are nice just the thin aluminum ones people use aren't very usefulyeah i get you man, ive been driving low as well haven't cracked an oil pan either. was just wondering what others thought about that. drivig low and slow isthat best way of life. just had to hear the opinion of others on skid plates. thanks bro
Even with a skid plate there is always risk of damaging it. I just mounted an angled piece of 1/4" steel to the front side of the oil pan so the side walls of the pan don't take a direct hit... the bottom of the pan on the other hand is on it's own.what are you takes on adding a skid plate for a 94 civic, under the oil pan so there is no risk in damaging it?
slammed 94 civic ej2
let me know you thoughts on skid plates
<3do they work? barely, unless you go thick and with steel, which adds a lot of weight. aluminum isnt strong enough and thin steel ones will just bend and push up with whatever you drive over
you need to run something like 3/16-1/4 inch for it to protect which your talking about a lot of extra weight up front. another option is to reinforce the oil pan, i just cover mine with 1/4 inch steel. you can also raise your engine and trans which will also help correct your tie rod and axle angles.
another option, learn to drive low. i havent cracked a pan yet and have gone 40k miles about, but im looking to bag and drag so gotta do something about it
thats why ill be building mine so its very close, so only a 1/4 inch gap or so, if i even need one<3
I wouldn't care so much about added weight from a skid plate, I would be more concerned that it's lower than the oil pan so you have a better chance of hitting the skid plate constantly if you can't drive.
