What are your thoughts on running a bucket seat and harness in a DD?
Your still using the takata harness right? Is it 4 or 5 point?

I wouldn't have it any other way...seeing as how i don't have a driver side airbag. Mine is used as a 4 point. The center lock has a 5th point lock if i chose to buy and use the belt. I have no problem with it. It's gets a little warmer in the drivers seat since the type of seat im using holds my sides nice and snug. I think the worse thing i personally could do without is pulling my wallet out at a drive-thru. Other than that it's fine IMO.

Haha Kool deal. I was just mainly worried that I found info online starring they were more unsafe than oem seats and 3 point belts. I was wondering were you stood on the debate. Right now I'm saving for one and having read this Info has me second guessing.

Did you mount your harness to the rear seat belt locations? And did you mount with a base and sliders or side mount? Also do have any pics of your set up?

Those are my demands... :rolf:

Less safe, in what very specific event? I'm sure there's an instance where a regular seat could have proved more useful and vice-versa. There's soo many factory cars equipped with bucket seats of all styles that have to pass safety standards just like every other vehicle. I think it's a stupid debate, you can always point the finger at something.

I've already been through a bad wreck and my harnesses kept me from having my face smashed on the stock steering wheel since the airbag didn't deploy. I'm happy with what I have.

Mine is installed properly. Seat rails bolted to the floor, side mounted rails to match the side mounting seats, and the 4 point harness is bolted to the chassis directly using the provided thick ass eyelets. I just took the time to work the straps between the rear seats and notched the factory plastic a bit to fit the drivers door eyelet properly.

I wouldn't run a bucket and harness unless you are also running a quick release steering wheel and a full cage. The safety devices in a car are designed to work as a system and you cannot mix and match pieces. In a rollover event, the stock seat will fold and the 3-point belt will allow your body to bend with it as the roof crushes. If you install a rigid racing seat, even with the correct belts for it, you will not be safe in a rollover because the roof will collapse onto you.

Just my :twocents:

^i see, thank you for response, I was just unsettled after hearing about that. I was planning on getting a bucket seat rails and 5 point cam lock harness

^not so much the driving, more or less the area I live. In the Appalachian mountain foot hills. Steep roads with guardrails separating you from embankments while sharing the lane with 18 wheelers on your daily commute to the county over. Not like you sissified city boys. (I kid!! :rolf:)

Damn. That's sound logic, thanks homie.
You guys are missing the fact that if you have an entirely stock system or an entirely aftermarket system, it won't be an issue. It's only when you mix and match that you endanger yourself.

No hard feelings though. If you feel comfortable with it, then go for it. It's just not worth the risk to me.

This is the second or third time this had been talked about in this thread...or was that Crash's thread?

Blah blah! More K swap talk less blah blah!

Awesome build Chid! I found this thread a few days ago and read the whole thing. I recently picked up a 97 cx for my DD as I start my Masters program, after that its build time for me. Too bad about your hatch, I would have had a step-by-step thread to follow for a clean build (Not to copy, but to have as inspiration).

^ I will agree with you, I drive like a grampa daily and usually only get spirited on back roads late at night coming home from work.

I watch out for other drivers (which is essentially the issue) 98% of the time.

Join the club, his build highly influences mine. The attention to detail and choices in after market mods (I can afford :p) are seen all over my build.

Sooo, Kerry... About your wilwood brakes, I'm debating getting a set since you always research and carefully choose your mods accordingly. Would that be too much brake for my hatch on the street? I'm thinking of just knocking that out and leaving the drums in the rear, I thought about the fast brakes 11" economy kit, but the integra calipers won't even use the whole disk and it seems like they are more for looks. The wilwood set up looks to be best bang for the buck.
